Observations thru 8 weeks.

I think Mo makes an excellent #2 back. We really can't judge if he'd be a great #1 back because he hasn't had the opportunity to be one.

PSU is leading the nation in sacks, so I would say that PSU will be a pretty big test for him....
I would say that is a good point.

Of course, it also true that before last week MSU and PSU were tied for sacks per game having both netted 29 in 7 games.

Then PSU netted 6 sacks against Indiana, while MSU only netted 2 against the Buckeyes.

So, a test yes, but the signs are good that the Buckeyes can weather the storm.

I think the O Line will show up in a big way on Saturday night. I know they don't want a repeat of 05. I think they'll play an excellent game.

I agree, and think that we will stall them, I was just referring to the poster that said that we won't be tested unless we play in a big time bowl game...

Mo Evans is a force to reckoned with...

I'm gonna love the BTN come hoops season.

I'll give a pat on the back to Freeman with his stellar play lately.

I hate living in ACC land and having to watch these damn teams play week in and week out

Very nice post 40, agree with everything. The one thing I would like to see is a little more consistancy from everyone on the Offense. We could be a great team then.

I think we are a great team already, but of course there is always room for improvement :tongue2:

The number one thing that has stood out to me after eight weeks is that this team has been playing up to its potential.

Preseason, we can talk all we want about who's looking big and who's looking fast and who's looking good in helmets. But when the season rolls around and basically everyone that you expect to be great (Laurinaitis, Wells, Gholston, Barton, Jenkins, Russell) are playing great and those you expect to be good (Robiskie, Washington, Coleman, Freeman, Worthington, Boeckman) are playing great, and then you got people who came out of nowhere (Heyward, Chekwa, Rolle) playing great, and you got role players playing very well, we got a great season going for us.

The level of player development on this team is unbelievable.

Just can't say enough about that. The youth of this team is something that people tend to forget. The fact that so many different guys have stepped up as this season has progressed, is a tribute to all involved with the program. The future looks pretty good, too. :wink2:

I said it the other day, but Laurinitis is having himself a great year. And to say that is to ignore the year that Marcus Freeman is putting together. It's amazing to watch.

That said, I don't think Animal will get much Heisman consideration this year. While someone in the field isn't exactly getting any separation from the field (remember this time last year Troy had essentially locked it up), this isn't the right year for it to go to a defensive guy.

That will be NEXT year after another dominant and simply excellent year from JL. Right now his rep is growing and growing, but it isn't at Heisman levels quite yet.

Gholston is getting double teamed and they are dropping him into coverage alot, so while he isnt getting the big numbers in terms of sacks and tackles, but other teams are going away from him...

He is playing just fine and with his size and speed he will be a first round consideration whenever he comes out...
Yeah, I'm not suggesting that he's playing poorly, but his numbers simply are not as strong, so while I think he goes after this year, I think his number dropoff isn't helpful for his position.

1. Todd Boeckman is turning himself in to a very good QB. He is very accurate, he is reading the blitzes very well, spreading the ball around to the playmakers, selling the playaction pass very well, and letting his playmakers make plays. Seems to be a leader in the huddle. He has led us on crucial drives, made crucial plays, but this week will really tell how much progress he has made, and I truly believe that he will put on his best effort that we have seen from him.

hmmm... perhaps by tOSU standards. as a first year starter boeckman is having a pretty decent year. he excels at leading the offense. his recognition and ability to audible appears to be well above the curve. however, his passing has really disappointed me thus far. granted the deep ball issues could be a result of doing as the coaches have instructed. so ill give him a pass on those and move on. he tends to throw high. he tends to lead receivers over the middle into certain death. he also has trouble leading receivers on pretty much any route. i have little doubt he will get better, but at this point if you take experience out of the equation and compair him to the rest of college football. he's average. he'll get there though.

3. Wr's - They are making huge plays, getting behind the defense, going up and gettig the ball, getting first downs, making blocks for the RB's big runs. The best thing is they are only going to continue to get better, and they will all be back next year.

i used to agree with the blocking bit. but robo has really been disapointing me lately. i don't really watch the receivers to make certain they are blocking on every play. but the plays i have paid attention to robo has missed quite a few blocks. he definitely needs to put in more work on blocking imo. as far as going up and getting the ball is conscerned. none of them are as fast as ginn. none of them run as good a routes as gonzo. but without question each one of them want it more. i completely agree with you on this one. they really put their bodies on the line and go for the ball.

15. Andy Geiger - Once again I would like to thank him for all the great things that he did for this university. Matta and Tress make a great team of football and basketball coaches, they work together in recruiting, and they are bringing in amazing players to continue to the tradition at tOSU. Hopefully they are both here for life.

coldn't agree more. geiger really did do an amazing job. you can't thank the guy enough. id also like to thank gene smith for coming in and taking over the right way.
