O.J. Mayo (Official Thread)

Last year during the state finals when he was still at North College Hill they were playing Cleveland VASJ for the title. One of VASJ better players was ejected because he reacted to how Mayo and Walker were acting on the court. It looked as if Mayo was chatting and taunting throughout the game, and the kid finally got fed up with it and said something. Mayo then ran away from the situation and acted clueless. Mayo has been acting this way his whole career, he is an excellent basketball player, but causes a circus wherever he goes. tOSU's basketball program can deal without this headache.

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Scott County High School scored a humongous victory for Kentucky basketball last night.
With Matt Walls and Bud Mackey leading the way, the Cardinals decked the nation's top-ranked team by beating Huntington (W.Va.) 72-68 before 7,500 fans last night in Memorial Coliseum.

I love how the kid is 18 and he gets in a fight and next thing you know he is being escorted off the floor by his entourage...

Punk or punked?

By Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo! Sports

January 31, 2007

Once, the wire story would've shaped the public's perception of that strange high school scene in West Virginia. America's best high school basketball player would've been framed as something of a punk, what with him getting ejected for trash talking, chasing down an official and knocking him on his fanny and all.

O.J. is at it again.
No, not him.
The Innocent One, Orenthal "If I Did It" James Simpson isn't at it again - as far as we know - but the two-time reigning Mr. Basketball in Ohio unfortunately is.
I guess high school basketball fans in the Buckeye State can consider themselves lucky that at least this time he is "at it again" in West Virginia.
And I feel more blessed than lucky to cover the players I cover in this area on a daily basis.
The top-rated high school boys basketball player in the country, O.J. Mayo, is back in trouble. On Jan. 26, Mayo was assessed two technical fouls and ejected from a game at the Charleston Civic Center by referee Mike Lazo.
Before leaving the court in a timely manner - or a civil one - Mayo came into contact with the referee, causing the official to fall to the floor as he approached the scorer's table.
Mayo, a senior at Huntington High School, was suspended for three games, according to an agreement between Mayo's attorney, the Secondary School Activities Commission and the high school.
If you've seen the video of the incident, it certainly looks like the referee in question knew the cameras were rolling and the spotlight was on him with the USC recruit getting close.

Cont'd...

I was watching that game (first time I've seen him). He started out 1 for 5, forcing shots. I was thiinking, he handles the ball well, but he's overrated.

He ended up with 47 in an OT loss to the #1 team in the country. He made two NBA 3's late in the game that barely rippled the net. He can shoot. :wink2:

I watched that game also. I found myself talking out loud at some of the shots he was making. What sweet shot he has. Regarding his ball handling, he's a decent ball handler but tends to "dribble" too much. Take Mike Conley for instance. When Mike is dribbling, he's making something happen with the ball. I dont like players to just sit and dribble going nowhere, which he does, and make turnovers, which he does. He's a Kobe Bryant clone, imo.

There were several excellent basketball players in that game as well.
