With limited numbers, it wasn't likely to happen anyways. Imo, last year's class was the best in the country and that is being as objective as possible. We just need a follow up of a top 5-10 class and fill the needs that weren't completely addressed in 2013. I see that as very possible. Aside from Webb, we haven't made any huge splashes nationally yet but we have landed some very good players and at positions of need. I think how high we end up hinges on if we wipe out Georgia like we plan and I think we will.
There are simply too many unknowns right now though and frankly, a TON of guys are still on the board:
1) How long will we purse Watson at QB and will he come here? Automatically that would be HUGE for this particular class. We need a QB in this class and Watson is the best period.
2) What 3 OL will we add? Trout and M. Jones are both studs. I see Jamarco Jones in soon too, who is also a great talent. That gives us an extremely solid base and allows us to focus on some great talent were are very much in the game for like Eleumenor, Mavety, Prince, Brown Jr., R. Johnson, Sharpe, Bookser, and Knox. WAY too early to tell what type of OL class we will have...at minimum, Trout, M. Jones, and J. Jones make it good-very good, then we just need two of the above to make it excellent-elite.
3) Who do we end up with from Georgia? I think at bare minimum we get McMillan, who will do work for us in Georgia recruiting. Then I think Kitt is VERY possible, and we are in solid shape with Chris Williams (who I want as our true DT in this class), Watson, and Lorenzo Carter. Plus, Autry is ours if we want him (I personally want him bad in the Pivot spot), which would put us in even better shape for Sawyer. We could realistically end up with 4-5 of Georgia's best...my guess is McMillan, Kitt, Williams, and Autry, which would be a coup.
4) How do we clean up at LB? Despite a great LB class last year, we need another great LB class this year. Hubbard might end up here but factoring him out, we already have a very good one in Berger. McMillan and Booker are basically in the bag. That gives us three great ones. Then we likely take one more and I think Garrett is ours if we want him. Berger, McMillan, Booker, and Garrett would likely be the best LB class in the country.
5) How many national studs do we get? This isn't a particularly loaded year in Ohio...aside from Lattimore, Smith, and Booker, we have everyone locked down who we need locked down. Last year we ended up with numerous OOS studs we weren't even talking much about yet...Mitchell, Bell, T. Johnson, J. Clark, Hill, and D. Wilson. Another great year and an extra push by the staff, and we could see a similar result. There are TONS of great prospects we might not be in ideal shape with right now or don't really know where we stand yet(Peppers, Hand, Andrew Brown, Lorenzo Carter, Hood, Watson, Tony Brown, McDowell, Jalyn Holmes, Prince, etc.). However, UFM & Co. should NEVER be counted out on anyone until the ink dries.
- I was going to put together some type of realistic projection but honestly my conclusion kept ending up at "Aside from a few guys in Lattimore, Booker, Smith, and McMillan, who knows?" I think the picture will clear up a tad more after summer camp concludes. We were forewarned at the beginning of the cycle that UFM was going to be more selective with lower numbers and more evaluation time...I think we've put together a great start, but I think this staff is being deliberately picky and rightfully so.
