Nowitzki to be named MVP

Honestly I don't have a problem with this...Kobe had a decent season, but didnt do it all season, and really has yet to take his team to the next level...

I wouldnt have any problem with the award going to Nash as he deserved it just as much, but Dirk had a great regular season, and that is what the award is based one...The playoffs will tarnish it as that is the last impression that he left on the season, but that is not what the voters voted on and the votes were in before the playoffs...

This is the first year I thought Nash deserved the award. Honestly, there aren't two more overrated players in this league like Shawn Marion and Amare Stoudamire. Neither of those two players could lead a team to the playoffs, let alone to the second-best record in the league. I never actually considered that until this year.

But.. the media couldn't give the MVP three years in a row to a guy that has not, and may not, ever make the NBA finals.

I will disagree on Marion and Stoudamire...I agree that Nash makes them better as he does with everyone, but those 2 are very good and perenial all-stars...

IMO Marion doesnt get enough credit, and Stoudameire was overrated in terms of getting all NBA first team, and I don't think that he could be the main cog on a team, as he needs someone to do some creating for him, but his ability to create passing lanes, run the floor is second to none...

Most undeserving MVP ever? I think so...

There is no doubt in my mind that Nash deserved it this year.

I saw an interesting poll today. If you're a Dallas fan, would you trade straight up Dirk for Kevin Garnett? If you're a Timberwolves fan, would you make the same trade? I really think we need to stop putting so much emphasis on team succes(it should be important, but not overwhelmingly important like it was for this MVP selection or the all NBA teams).

I was reading Bill Simmons(it was either him or another NBA blog), and they said that Dirk will never get serious consideration for an MVP again unless he wins a championship first.

Could you see either leading a team? Seriously, if your best player is Shawn Marion, what is your team's ceiling? 35-40 wins?

Barkley scored 44 points and had 20+ rebounds against Seattle in Game 7 of the conference finals that year. To go along with his 25 ppg and 12 rpg, I don't think you can make the argument that Charles was "undeserving" that year, though obviously Jordan could have won the thing every year. Nowitzki averaged 24 and 9 rpg. He's a good player, often a great shooter, but he simply is not an MVP.

If you want a good player whose team would absolutely stink without him, you have to go with Kobe or LeBron. Realistically, the MVP is probably Tim Duncan just about every year, but he doesn't make it a priority to put up big numbers until it really counts.

That is robbery. Kobe and Nash both deserved over Dirk.

i think it has a lot to do with people not wanting Nash to be a 3 straight MVP. while i don't agree with that, i can understand it. as a voter, if you aren't voting for nash, why not vote for the best player on the best team? That's how you get Dirk over Kobe. kinda like they do for the heisman these days.

sorry for the double post, but that is what happens when you don't read the entire thread before posting.

don't diss Marion. he is the backbone of the suns (you could call nash the brain and heart and amare the muscle). you may be right that he couldn't lead a team by himself, but that doesn't make him overrated. without him, the suns are nowhere near as good as they are now.

When is he ever going to get the credit he deserves?

A lot of teams have those players that are essential to success. But those players would not be nearly as highly regarded if they had to lead a team themselves.

I really don't think you can call Marion overrated. He does all the little things for that team. He's like a middle class version of Pippen when he was with the Bulls. Does all the dirty work. He usually guards the other teams best player(or hottest player). He doesn't get a whole lot of plays called for him. He's a terrific rebounder and he's a good finisher and shooter. He's the ultimate role player in the game today.

I don't think Barkley's was more undeserving than Dirk's fwiw. Barkley was one of the three best players in the league that year. Can you really make that claim for Dirk? Would anyone honestly take Dirk over Nash, Kobe, Lebron, or Duncan? Dirk is the best player on a great team(during the regular season at least). No one disputes that. The issue, in my eyes at least, is does that make him an MVP caliber player? Replace Dirk with an average power foward in the league and Dallas still wins 50 games at least. Replace Nash, Kobe, or Duncan with their average counterparts, and their teams are much much worse.
