The bottom line of this whole arguement is that does it really matter if ND plays a game first or not ? ND could play 3 games, with scUM playing none, and ND is still going to lose.

Playing the hardest schedule only matters if you win most of your games. What good is playing the NCAA's toughest schedule if you're only going to win 6 or 7 games ?

I must admit that it is much easier hating ND when they have a good team. They're just like Penn St. It's not quite as fun when they stink.

Or you could play a cream puff schedule (which everyone will whine about)win a bunch have everyone say you are over-rated and get killed in a bowl game......

ND has for the most part played Michigan well so dont count on a Mich. victory just yet.

I think we can all safely agree that ND sucks. And that they have sucked for most of recent memory. And that they will suck for the majority of the foreseeable future. So my question is, where does NDChump get off trying to rip tOSU on an Ohio State board? Trying to take away something from our NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP season? I just don't get it. Something about throwing rocks in a glass house comes to mind....especially when you're throwing rocks at an impenetrable fortress.

Are you referring to ND in 2002 ?

Yes, they historically have, but , since the flogging from NC St., they just seem like a different ND team. Even when they were down before(by ND standards), they always seemed to come up big in big games. Their talent just does'nt seem to be what they're used to having.

I have posted this on the board before:

The reason ND is not a top tier program is simple, when the admin side of the college dictates who the head football coach can recruit, well your not on a level playing field when the rest of the country has no such limitations, I find it simply amazing that the head coach is handed a list of who he can recruit from, talk about having your hands tied. Its not even fair to Coach Tyrone, I am not a big ND fan but lets be real for a minute, its not fair your standards are so high and other programs are so low, but its the way of the world. ND is looking at 6-5 best case scenario.....

Anybody else would try to do the same thing ND is doing... no hard feeling here.

That is the great thing about being a die hard fan... ND chief likes the gomers and we like the Bucks... I think at one point, some OSU fans would have traded the '97 season for all losses and one win, that one win being scUM (cost them the 0.5 NC  )...

WOW!! A poster who get's it......

What is amazing is that the NCAA has let all this go on! Hopefully the NCAA will do as planned and reduce scholarships for low grad. rates making the playing field a little more level.

Well, ND got it's wish. BYU will be their opener.

ND gets what it wants.

NDChief, I'm starting to take exception to ND's position. You have been going on about how the NCAA should "level the playing field", and yet ND enjoys as many benefits (actually much more) from it's position than almost any university playing D-1 football. This latest story is a prime example. ND doesn't like it's scheduling. What to do, what to do? How about having 9 teams from 1-A to NAIN rearrange their schedules to fit ND's needs? How about getting a National Broadcaster going to bat for ND to get these changes made? How about NAIA member Carroll College (a Catholic College btw) losing it's "money game" against Idaho State? Think ND will compensate them for the money they'll be losing? Nope. ND enjoys all the perks and special consideration any school could ask for, yet complains about any percieved slight to them. THAT is why other schools do not like ND and ND fans. That, and the fact that most ND fans are arrogant in the extreme. Just like your post where you insinuate other colleges are enjoying an unfair advantage over ND. Almost as if you are saying "If you don't have the same admission/graduation standards as ND you are cheating".

Now before you argue both sides of the coin by saying "If these teams and networks are fine with it, then what's the problem?" ... not so fast. The same thing holds for the NCAA and graduation rates. You imply that the playing field isn't level. It is level indeed. Everyone is playing by the same NCAA rules ... admission standards for athletes. Why is it everyone else's fault if ND wants a higher standard? Your school and administration CHOOSES to be in the position it's in. No one is forcing you to become a second rate football power ... you're doing it of your own choice. In fact, things were much different for Lou Holtz. Why is that? Why should the NCAA come to your rescue? No one is breaking any rules. But I guess if ND whines and cries long enough, the NCAA will [sarcasm]level the playing field[/sarcasm].

3 YARDS- It is not level because some universities make there football players go to football practice and not to class.

One question?? What is the main goal of any university??

I bet if you read the OSU mission statement I bet it does not say one thing about winning football games.

And no I have not been put in my place because if OSU had grad. rates in the 90's you would be squaking about teams that have low grad. rates as well!
Actually I have read many posts from OSU fans (exp. on BN) complaining about Tennessee's grad. rates.
