Notre Dame (football only discussion)

I said when they hired him all the underachieving and character-questionable Spartans needed was someone to stick his boot up their collective asses and instill some discipline...Dantonio is that man, and look at the results. They would have blown that Pitt game last year, guaranteed. They are fundamentally sound and can beat a Division XII Ass-Noodle Subdivision offensive line that went to the Quasim Mitchell school of turning around and watching the ballgame from the line of scrimmage. Any Golden Doper who thinks they are going to roll Michigan State needs to put down the bong, say 3 Hail Charlies, and stop watching football.

I want to support BuckLion. MSU is going to be a real force in the Big Ten. Think Duffy Daugherty years. They will roll Notre Dame this week easily.

I watched almost every snap of that MSU/Pitt game and I don't think MSU is going to roll anyone. They may win because NoD is just that damn bad but they aren't a good team yet imo.

Pitt was without a ton of key guys, playing on the road and the QB was just awful, yet MSU couldn't break it open. They still struggled with key mistakes and penalties. You can see progress in East Lansing but they are still very shakey.

The key question in my view boils down to this.

Which is more likely - that MSU continues to rack up the sack stats, in which they are near top in the nation, against a very leaky offensive line.
Or, is it likely that Weis' back-to-basics Bible class actually allowed them to select to sort out a gelled Offensive line.

Given how long it takes for any O-line to actually coalesce my bet is on the former, not the latter.

Look for a chalk outline on the turf with a spiky head sometime near (or perhaps before) the 3rd quarter.

Notre Dame game no laughing matter

Big Ten notebook
TODD PORTER

The Notre Dame punch lines are piling up. The Foldin? Domers. Notre Don?t score a touchdown. The Louse of the Irish.

Mark Dantonio isn?t laughing.

Michigan State is off to a

3-0 start with Dantonio in his first year as head coach. The normally stoic Dantonio said, with a poker straight face, Notre Dame is a good football team. Never mind the Irish have yet to score an offensive touchdown in three games or finish a game in the black on the ground.

Listened to the ESPN College Football Insider Podcast w/ Ivan Maisel and Beano Cook this afternoon. At the tail end of the broadcast Beano mentioned that he has spoken with a Notre Dame historian-friend of his who has come to the conclusion that never in Notre Dame's history have they been the underdog at home to an unranked team. At least, if it's happened, they couldn't find it.

Way to go, Charlie Weis!!:tongue2:

I have thoroughly researched the scoring rules, as well as arithmetic, I can't figure out how this Domer has 5 TD's and 2 FG's adding up to 27 points.

Those high academic standards at ND!

Hrm... Well the Quarterback will throw for two touchdowns, one to Carlson, and one to Kamara, they will rush for one and kick two field goals. At least I think that's what he meant.

Either way, 3 touchdowns, 5 touchdowns, the only time that's mentioned in a Notre Dame conversation is when it's following the statement of "NoD lost by..."

Yeah I know. Long story short, someone else read that on my computer and made the post. I deleted it and sent said "poster" to his room for a few minutes.

The line I recently heard from an ND fan who is pretty well-informed on football matters is that the primary issue with the offensive line is Latina has been trying to school all of them in all of the positions. Makes sense to school your linemen in different positions (tackle, guard) if you have established personnel. His point is that is not true. They have two established personnel - TE and Center. Beyond that if they selected their best three guards and Tackles they could, over time, save themselves a lot of the dysfunctional performance ND's line has shown this year.

I think he has a point, in that it is part of the problem. It also tells me that the solution isn't going to present itself very soon for the Irish.

Their game against MSU might be really rough with Saint-Dic et al getting into their backfield at will.
