Most years I would consider Nebraska, Oklahoma, Florida State, or Tennessee tougher opponents than a team like UCLA and definitly Washington. So by listing those teams in a PAC-10 setting, aren't you supporting my argument that a conference schedule could lead to an easier path for a bowl game?
I'll concede that UCLA may have a good year hear and there, but people don't often look forward to a game with the Bruins (Not last time I checked anyway). The idea was to boast teams we've played in previous years with storied histories and get national recognition a decent amount of the time. My point was, aside from the 1-3 military acadamies we play each year (Depending on the way the schedule falls), we normally don't have too many cupcakes outside of that. North Carolina may be the only real cupcake outside the military academies this year, unfortunately we have all 3 this year though.

WSU has been cancelled. USC, California, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma are also on that list.BuckeyeMike80;654380; said:Washington, Washington State and Miami (FL) might have something to say about that.....

This all started because I said Notre Dame could have an easier time getting to a bowl game by joining some conferences rather than playing their own schedule. Playing a PAC-10 schedule where the biggest threats are USC, Oregon, and occasionally one other team would be a blessing compared to some of the schedules we have each year.
I never said that ND wins all their tough games, but they still schedule the tough ones regardless. I would rather take a chance and play a close, exciting game against a tough team than say...steamroll some cupcakes all season. As far as Tennessee goes, there was no way of telling years ago that they would have sucked last year, but Tennessee is usually a good team, so it was a good choice for most years. Tennessee most years would be a much tougher opponent than UCLA, which is the toughest opponent it seems OSU has scheduled outside the Big10 aside from Texas.
This was the original response I was going with. I simply put out that ND could have had a shot to run the table in a conference like the ACC, other conferences are debateable as it pertains to this year. It would seem weird to see ND in the ACC, but it would be strange to see them in any conference in football. They were thinking about joining in '98 I think when Miami and other teams were heading that way, but they decided to stick with the Big East and also rejected an invitation for their other sports to join the Big 10.Notre Dame will be absolutely demolished in their bowl game. I know it's cliche to say Notre Dame is overrated by they really are. They would struggle to go to a bowl game in any conference.
You mean ND fans? If so, this is the only OSU board I post on, because your mods were real cool during the Fiesta bowl game last year and sent the invitation. I think most years we have a good schedule, yes, not this year though.I was unaware Ohio State fans ran around to every board they could find touting their schedule. Likewise, I was unaware that they did so so often they earned a reputation of the same.
Now I hope you are not going to parse the term "regular season" when you see this answer.ulukinatme said:When have you scheduled Miami in the regular season, at least in the last 10 years
Is your argument regarding the strength of the teams when the games were scheduled, when they were played, or both? When have you scheduled Miami in the regular season, at least in the last 10 years(Thats as far back as I can search currently)? Granted, we haven't scheduled Miami either in the last 10 years during the regular season, the last one was in 88 or 89 I think. Washington still sucks, Tyrone Willingham is such a great coach hes really turned them around...Washington State in '02-'03 would be decent, but they're only good for a few seasons before they drop off again, when you guys scheduled them they were probably in the middle of their usual seasons.
Steve19;654114; said:And now for the reading impaired. It's not like you have winning records against these "leading brands", you win when they finish at the bottom of their conferences for the most part. Stop yelling brand names when they kick your arses except when they are at their worst. In those years, the brands your are disrespecting finish in the main better than Notre Dame and the teams you are shouting about beating.
What is it about the facts I posted earlier that you guys don't understand?
