Man if you gotta pay to get ass at Notre Dame as a football player...

Seeing as how he is on the defensive side of the ball, the descriptive "football player" is a bit misleading don't ya think.

Damn, when I saw this pic I thought I had somehow mistakenly clicked into the Gayest Bands thread.

Nothing beats the ND boards.

It is OK for kids to solicit prostitutes. It is just sex.

All college kids drink booze - no problem here.

It is OK for Charlie to swear on the sideline. What coach doesn't?

Oh, and by the way. Notre Dame's program is special. Just a cut above all the other programs.

What was going on in the world of pop culture/sports January 1994?
  • Top on the charts in TV was Beverly Hills 90210
  • The top song was Can't Touch This by MC Hammer
  • * January 6 - Nancy Kerrigan is clubbed on the right leg by an assailant under orders from figure skating rival Tonya Harding's ex-husband.
  • January 21 - Lorena Bobbitt is found not guilty by reason of insanity on charges of mutilating her husband John.
  • January 28 - The first trial of accused murderer Lyle Menendez ends in a mistrial. He and his brother Erik are later found guilty and sentenced to life in prison without parole.
  • * January 30 - In Super Bowl XXVIII, the Dallas Cowboys hand the Buffalo Bills their fourth consecutive Super Bowl loss, 30-13 Troy Aikman, Michael irvin, Jim kelly, Thurman Thomas, and (soon) Emmitt Smith all played in that game, retired and have sincebeen inducted into the HOF.
There was something else football related but its so far back I have a hard time remembering......Oh yeah....ND won a Bowl game and the kids who are freshman this year weren't even in kindergarten yet.

Just thought I'd stop in and share a little trip down memory lane. 13 years (and counting) is a long fucking time.
I dislike Notre Dame as much as the next guy, but to be fair, a large part of the reason why ND hasn't won a bowl since the Hoover administration is due to the double-edged sword of media over-hype. Namely, Notre Dame routinely gets placed in bowl games that they don't belong in, against opponents who clearly outclass them, solely because the television networks and bowl sponsors know that the ND name will sell tickets and turn on tv sets. BigTen teams tend to get this same thing to some extent, but not to nearly the same extent that Notre Dame does. Notre Dame's been a mediocre-to-decent team over the past 15 years, and if they'd been treated as such, they would have won some bowl games. Instead, they routinely get placed in a bowl game against an opponent who is a couple of notches above them, and as a consequence of that, they get pantsed.

And yet the nutty nancies continue to hang their dillusioned hats on their back-to-back BCS bowl appearances like that is in any way meaningful. If they can't even acknowledge that the overhype from the media gets them into some of the bowls, they can't use the hype as an excuse for sucking ass in said bowl games.

Notre Dame fans can say what they like, but this is reality. Notre Dame tends to get placed over their heads in bowls. Regardless of the context in which you choose to look at that (pro-ND; as an excuse for being beaten, or anti-ND; as negating the compliment of having been selected for that bowl in the first place), it's still true.

Sure, I'm not saying it's not a valid argument, just that I wouldn't accept that same contention coming from a ND fan who pointed at the multiple BCS appearances as evidence that they are "back".
