Notre Dame Fighting Irish (official thread of bowl failures)

I think that they will be embarrassed by the Spartans and the Trojans. Purdue, Pitt, Boston College, Stanford, TSUN, UConn, Stanford, and Navy are all possible losses. Four losses and Weis is history.

:(

Go Irish? I'm willing to sacrifice a battle to win the war. 1994 was in retrospect a much better thing for scUM fans than OSU fans.

+1 I'll even kick in a cheeseburger or two to keep him around. Bubba burger anyone?

Are you saying they will fire Weis if they get four losses this year? If they have only four losses this year they will get into a BCS bowl game.

I'm not so sure. An 8-4 regular season (especially with that cupcake schedule) isn't going to get them an automatic BCS at large bid. The "ND rule" is a top 8 BCS rank. A 4 loss team isn't going to be anywhere near that high.

Just when I get myself all worked up that "Death Squads" are a bad idea Lou Holtz comes out and predicts Notre Dame will play in the NC game.

Out on a limb, even for Dr. Lou: Irish in the title game? - Dr. Saturday - NCAAF - Yahoo! Sports

Before you laugh, look at the schedule then read the threads about Michigan for this year. ND 's in every game this year except USC and they need only keep that from being a total train wreck to go serious bowling.

On the good side, it keeps King Ding Dong at South Bend for at least two more years and they'll get their ass handed to them in a real bowl game...

It's enough to make me shout, "Go Blue!"

This years Notre Dame squad is just good enough, with a favorable schedule, to lose another Fiesta Bowl 41-9 like what happened nine years ago when they got torched by Chad Johnson, TJ Houshmandzadeh, and the [strike]Cincinnati Bengals[/strike] Oregon State Beavers.

That's not possible - teams need at least 9 wins and a top-14 BCS ranking to be eligible for an at-large bid. There's a sticky thread in this forum that has the BCS rules for this season.

As Jax pointed out, ND's special rule gives then a spot if they're in the BCS top-8 regardless of record, but 8-4 isn't getting them anywhere near the top-8.

Holtz may be smarter than we give him credit.

Weis is really much more on the hot seat at Notre Dame than it appears outside. Faculty, staff, and alumni are really putting the pressure on the University to fire him. Four losses probably would be enough to see him fired. Administrators are afraid that they will be stuck with him after a two loss season.

If Holtz starts crying national championship, then the bar gets set higher rather than lower. If he says it enough, the spray alone may make it a slippery slope that Weis cannot climb.

What I want to know is...how the fuck is this Holtz, who says a mediocre ND team who hasn't beaten anyone of relevance in the Weis era is going to somehow become National Champions, the same Holtz who as coach used to say that his #2 ranked team had no chance to beat The Citadel on a homecoming Saturday?

Weis losing 4 games with that schedule should get his fat ass fired.

Although a quick look through this thread will show that we all anticipated it, it really is funny listening to all of the ESPiN announcers saying that Notre Dame is under-rated at #20. Hell, they'd be over-rated at #50.
