Note to Pat Haden, who said he couldn't see why the ND linebacker got called for a penalty after he recovered a BC fumble inside the ND 5 yard line.

He ran off the field and tossed the ball away from the referee. He was called for delay of game. It's the same call I saw called against Neal Colzie after he intercepted one of your passes in the 1975 Rose Bowl and returned it inside the 10 yard line. He was called for that penalty, which helped tOSU to not get a TD on that drive, and your USC team ended up with the MNC by winning that game by 1 fricking point.

Sorry, but Clausen in a legitimate Heisman candidate - he's in my top-5.

He's second in the nation in passing efficiency, and he's faced better competition than the leader, Boise State's Kellen Moore. Plus, he has some good highlight moments in some comeback wins.

One thing that annoys me about Heisman tracking is that fumbles aren't mentioned for QB's, and pick-6s aren't highlighted, they're just listed as interceptions,

In Clausen's case, an abysmal backward pass that went for a TD for Washington is almost completely forgotten.

But if you're annoyed by Clausen being a Heisman candidate, expect to be annoyed for a while. He's had a better season that Tebow or Colt McCoy so far.

True enough, I just don't like the kid and that's no doubt a factor in my annoyance, but....

The Heisman may have become a QB award these days, but I don't think it has to go to McCoy, Tebow or Clausen. Frankly, I think Golden Tate deserves more of a look than does Clausen. Without Tate, Clausen would be pretty pedestrian, if you ask me. Losing Floyd early is a factor in that (both ways) as well, though. In any case, when I watch ND football, it's Tate who always strikes me as the guy who makes that O go. I realize he's got someone getting him the football.... but... it's my opinion that someone could be pretty much anyone. It happens to be Clausen.

Due to our dislike of ND, it would be worse if Michael Floyd had been healthy all year. He's a better receiver than Golden Tate. When Clausen has Floyd, Tate, and Rudolph to throw to at the same time, that offense is really tough to stop.

And try not to get bummed when ND gets ranked again today. It's going to happen. And I believe it's deserved this week.

Tate's definitly a ball player, he's had a few drops but not many. He's come up big in pretty much every close game this season. Hate to think how bad the offense could be without both Floyd and Tate. Kamara and Parris have stepped up a bit the last few weeks, but they're not quite in the same league. It took some time for Tate to adjust from RB to WR, but they're finding ways to get him the ball. He's lined up as a RB a few times, both in the Leprecat and normal two back sets.

I think Clausen is getting a lot of the attention because he's shed some of the arrogance of his Freshman year and started to become a leader for the offense. He's really improved his accuracy and poise in the pocket, the offensive line has something to do with part of that. Aside from the USC game, Clausen has had a lot more time to work in the pocket. It's lead to less sacks and INTs

I saw this last night, but they're not giving the details exactly on what Gunnell said.

Based on an article out of Boston, Clausen was jawing before the game and supposedly also pushed Justin Jarvis on the way out onto the field, didn't see any of this. Clausen came over to tell Gunnell good game and congradulate him on a big day receiving, Gunnell wasn't having any of it. If all accounts are true, thats poor sportsmanship on both sides. If Jimmy shoved, thats low class. Gunnell could have been the bigger man, the game was over.

I like your optimism, but I'm gradually coming to the conclusion that this is a decent team. Not great, maybe not even good, but decent. They aren't going to lose to Stanford and probably not to Navy either.

Sure they're decent but decent teams lose games. They've been squeaking by week after week. You can only go to the well so many times before there's nothing left.

This team has been playing to the level of their opponents all season. People expected them to get blown out again against USC, but it came down to the final play. They've got a lot more confidence this year, they've said that in close games they know they can win rather than dreading the eventual defeat like they have in year's past. Theres positive and negative things that come with living on the edge like this. Right now they're 2 plays from being undefeated, and about 4 from being 1-6. They have a lot of experience in 2 minute situations, and a few times the defense has stepped up in a couple situations. In a lot of these games they've been conservative when they needed to be, and opened up the offense when it was crunch time.

I think the Navy game will be close, it always is, but they're looking to get Floyd back for this game. Navy won't be able to stop the passing game, and despite ND's defense being poor at the pass, they've been pretty good against the run like they were last week. I could see this being a one score game in difference.

Pitt will be nasty and will be the toughest game they have left, it will come down to how well ND's offense produces. ND's defense is going to be taxed in that one. They took them to overtime last year I think, I like our chances if the same situation happens again. Either way, I see this one being exciting, could turn into a shoot-out.

Stanford I'm not sure about. I think this is the last game of the season, and they've played hard no matter what the spread was.
