Hunter Johnson says Northwestern has 'similar talent' to Clemson

Clemson has won two national titles and is in the process of recruiting one of the all-time greatest classes in college football history. Not many teams match the same level of talent that the Tigers possess.

Well, unless you ask former Clemson and current Northwestern quarterback Hunter Johnson. The former five-star quarterback believes the Wildcats have similar talent to what he had while he was at Clemson.

Johnson was one of several players to speak with the media on Wednesday at Northwestern, and was asked a bevy of questions as he (likely) prepares to take over under center for the Wildcats this fall. The transfer quarterback was asked an interesting question while at the podium, as one reporter wanted to know the difference in talent level between his new team and his old squad.

According to Johnson, there isn’t all that much difference.

“I think talent wise, we have very similar talent, honestly,” Johnson responded.

That’s not a very easy question to answer. Johnson can’t just say that he thinks Clemson is head and shoulders above Northwestern, so he was a bit pidgeon-holed by the question. Still, it was an interesting response from the five-star gunslinger.

Johnson, an Indiana native, was a five-star member of Clemson’s 2017 recruiting class. But in a crowded quarterback room that included Kelly Bryant and Trevor Lawrence, Johnson decided to head to a program with a better opportunity to make an impact.

Though there’s still a quarterback competition in Evanston, Johnson is expected to see the field as the starter this fall.

To be honest though, he was at Clemson so he was good enough to be on the sideline. Of course he was beat out by a better QB, but the level of talent isn't as different as some think. D1 players are good, and every team has god players. There is a reason that the NFL drafts from all over even FCS schools instead of taking 25 guys from Clemson every year. There are good players all over. Clemson has more of them but there are guys at NW that could play at Clemson and the fall off from a Clemson guy to a NW guy isn't like some think.

Peyton Ramsey transferring from Indiana to Northwestern

Former Indiana Hoosiers quarterback Peyton Ramsey will not go far when it comes to a transfer season. Ramsey entered the transfer portal at the end of the season, and announced Northwestern as his 2020 home.

After three seasons as a Hoosier from 2017 to 2019, Ramsey will take one year of eligibility with him to Northwestern. Ramsey announced his decision on social media, and projects to factor immediately into the Northwestern quarterback room.

“I would like to thank everyone at Indiana University for allowing me to live out my dream of playing college football,” Ramsey wrote. “I would especially like to thank my teammates that pushed me, encouraged me and trusted me. Sometimes the road to realizing your dreams can take you in a different direction than you expected. With that being said, I would like to announce my decision to continue my playing career at Northwestern University. I am grateful to Coach Fitz and his entire staff for this opportunity. I can’t wait to get started.”

In his three seasons at Indiana, Ramsey completed 66.5 percent of his passes for 6,581 yards, 42 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions. Last fall, Ramsey helped lead Indiana to an eight-win season. After the Hoosiers defeated Purdue in November to reach eight wins, Ramsey discussed the progress the team had made.

I don't get it at all. He's the returning starter, correct? Why transfer from a program on an upswing to literally the worst offense in the country? And what a "fuck you" to his teammates. I'm guessing that IU and NW don't play next year because if they do that's a don't miss game to watch.

Apparently Penix is 100% healthy and is the presumptive starter this year. Still kind of a douche move on Ramsey's part though.
