I was already grown up:wink2: when I started attending games at St. John and the reason that the crowd is like that is because those are best Basketball fans that are there. They should have built a 17,000 seat basketball arena and 10,000 hockey arena. It is just a wonderful place to watch a basketball game and everyone is so close together. The only thing that I wonder about is that if we were still playing in St. John how would it have affected our recruiting those big-time players.

the fans brought some nice energy, it just makes you wonder if the repuation of the place makes people a little rowdy, then at the schott the repuation makes people doze off...

it looked like a similar type crowd to me...

I totally disagree. The people who were at that game last night were true Buckeye basketball fans. They were not there to be seen like quite a few people who are PSL holders. You can almost tell by looking at the crowd that they were very similar to the people who Hank Williams referred to in "All My Rowdy Friends...".

The game came on after 1am this morning. I worked straight through and turned off the computer and just watched the game.

I'll be blunt about this. I think St. John Arena is one hell of a lot better place than Value City Arena. As I watched them warming up, I remembered standing under the basket as a kid and getting autographs by players like Ron Sepic and Gary Bradds while the guys warmed up, before being chased away by the team managers. I remembered my Dad chewing me out for taking a picture about three feet away from Fred Taylor during a game in 1967 (think I still have that somewhere).

Watching that game last night and watching the cameras pan through that old lady of basketball, I confess that I felt a shiver now and then as I remembered those times. Those were real fans there last night and I could feel the old lady rocking clear over here in South Africa.

With the game out of doubt, I was hoping for the score to be the same as the national championship win but was happier to see so many benchwarmers get some quality playing time. I hope we win the NIT, but to be honest, I don't care what happens now this season. It was just really special to be a part of that one.

Granted I went to school during the last days of the Randy Ayers era, but the atmosphere at St. John Arena back then was pure shit. The atmosphere last night was great, but I'm not sure it had as much to do with the arena as it did the fans that got a chance to go and get good seats.

I spent roughly 25 years going to games at St John.

But I bought my Springsteen tickets long before I saw the NIT coming.

The Schott wasn't sold out, but it was pretty full. During the encore they play "Born to Run". Everyone is on their feet clapping and singing - amps blaring. My buddy looks at me and asks if I have ever seen anything like it.

And I'm thinking this isn't even the loudest building in two blocks.

It not only boils down to $$ but do you think that the big-time players would have come here if we were still in St. John. Quite a few of those players are spoiled (maybe that's a bad word) but they needed new locker rooms and the other amenities that we could not build on to St. John.:osu:

I understand why they built it and it is one helluva facilty. I deeply appreciate the generosity that built it. But, if it were up to me, I'd stack people right above the floor like at St John's and make the buggers brave enough to play us in Columbus rue their lot in life.

That crowd really got to Cal last night. You just don't see that very often at the Schott. I still remember my first game in St. John's (versus Davidson). We were up high and I was frightened at first by the rocking when the crowd got into it. But then I saw the adults getting into it and realized that the placed rocked in more ways than one. I've watched games in the Schott from right behind the announcers with an OSU professor friend. Just not the same thing.

I am not criticizing. I am just remembering something we lost to gain what we gained. I miss it.
