Nick O'Leary (TE Las Vegas Raiders)

O’Leary Realizes “Dream”

Last season as a sophomore Dwyer 2011 tight end Nick O’Leary burst onto the scene as one of the top prospects in his class. Tuesday, O’Leary caught a glimpse of what the recruiting process will be like for him over the next year and half before he is able to sign his letter of intent in February of 2011. The 6-foot-3, 210-pounder took the big day in stride, just like any other day.

“That I know of, Florida, FIU, and South Carolina,” said O’Leary on written offers he received the first day the NCAA allows for members of the 2011 class.

O’Leary was told he received an offer from Tennessee as well, but did not get to the coaches office to see for himself. With or without the Vols’ written offer, O’Leary is happy this day finally came.

2011 TE Gaining Early Interest

The 2011 recruiting cycle got started September 1st as the nation's top juniors started to receive written offers from colleges all across the nation. One of Florida's best for 2011 is Dwyer tight end Nick O'Leary. NoleDigest caught up with him after he got his offer from Florida State to talk about the Seminoles and some of his favorites early on in his process.

Nothing new really, same schools of interest, same offers. He does say he's looking into the possibility of graduating early, wants an offense that uses the tight end, and wants to go somewhere he can play early.

Lattimore sets four visits, Georgia not among them
4:02 pm September 23, 2009, by Chip Towers

...

There's another story this week on South Florida tight end Nick O'Leary, Jack Nicklaus' grandson. This one was written by floridastate.scout.com (subscription required) but in it he talks of Georgia a little more prominently. "I'm looking at all of the schools that have offered me like Miami, Florida, FSU and others," O'Leary said. "My dad played linebacker at Georgia. He hasn't been talking to me much and tells me I should do what I want to do. [But] growing up I always like Georgia and FSU a lot." Kipp Adams of uga.rivals.com (subsription required) did a nice story on O'Leary last week where he talks about receiving letters from the Bulldogs. .

Nick O'Leary, a tight end from Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., who is ranked among the best at his position nationally in the class of 2011, made an unofficial visit to Ohio State for the Southern California game.

That's Nicklaus O'Leary -- Jack Nicklaus' grandson. Grandpa might have provided transportation to the game.

Rivals.com reported that O'Leary hasn't received a formal offer from Ohio State; it quotes O'Leary as saying he already has written offers from South Carolina, the University of Miami, Florida, West Virginia, Tennessee and Wisconsin, among others. It's clear that the 6-foot-4, 215-pounder is interested in OSU, but he's also interested in Georgia, where his father, Bill, played football and his mother, Nan (Jack's daughter), played volleyball.

Jack Nicklaus told Rivals.com that he doesn't care where his grandson goes to school.

"From a selfish standpoint, Florida would be great because it's close," he said. "He wouldn't have to live up to his father or me. Ohio State would be great because I'd love to see him go there. Georgia would be great because of his father."

OFFERS: WV, Tenn, FSU, Miami, USF, Florida, S. Carolina, Tenn, BC, FIU, and UCF. INTEREST: Wisconsin, Rutgers, Georgia, & Ohio State "once in a while". He wants to play in the south and his Dad has Georgia stuff "all over the house". He has no planned timetable to commit at this time.
