Boys basketball roundup: Buckeye Valley slips by DeSales

Saturday, December 29, 2007 3:08 AM

Scott Thomas scored 41 points and Buckeye Valley defeated DeSales 68-66 last night in the first round of the St. Jude's Holiday Classic at Lebanon.
Thomas, who made 15 of 23 shots from the field, sank a free throw to give the Barons (6-3) a two-point lead late in the fourth quarter.

Nick Kellogg scored 31 points for the Stallions (5-2), who missed a three-pointer and four putback attempts in the final eight seconds.

Kellogg turned in a fine evening. I was not tracking stats, but would guess he had 14-20 pts & 6-9 assists. While DeSales turned in a good all-around team effort, Kellogg is the heart of that team and can drive the offense inside, outside and with his vision as a passer.

I'm not the best with estimating height, but he seemed just a touch taller than myself at 5'10. Perhaps 5'11-6'0.5"?

Will have photos in a bit, either tonight or tomorrow.

I ref'd one of his games back in middle school. You could tell he was the best player on the floor scoring 25+ in a loosing effort. It looked to me at the time that his body was going to turn him into a 3 or 4 type player.

Anyone have any recent pics of him?

Dials reminds me a lot of a Nick Dials type kid at this stage in his development...

With that said I think that he could still grow, and could end up as a player here or somewhere else...

With Golden and Wright already in the 10' class you have to figure that the staff is going to be looking for big guys to fill the class with another guy if they want anyone else in that class...

Nick can really shoot the ball, can handle the ball and can get into the lane some, but he is an undersized 2g at the moment, and that is not really something that we are looking for...
