Question for all you hockey guys. Do you hate the Penguins because so many around Columbus root for them or because now they are in the same division as the Blue Jackets?
I hate literally everything associated with that city. More my hate for the Steelers overflows to the other teams. The Pirates get a pass because let’s be honest, they’re the (post 1988-pre 2021) Bengals.

My entire family, both sides, are born & bred yinzers. I don't mind the city/area itself at all...quite fond of it, actually. The sports teams can get fucked, though.

Its a combo of things. Annoying as fuck fans in Columbus, continued success, getting Crosby/Malkin/Fleury/Staal in 4 years with the 1st or 2nd pick each year, sweetheart treatment from the league.

This.

Not to mention the good fortune it took to follow a generational player like Lemieux with Crosby. With Jagr sprinkled in, too. The Pens are neck/neck with the Stillers on my "get fucked" board.

Why are they annoying fans in Cbus? Columbus didnt have a team until recently so most of us, yes me included, started following the Penguins. I started in the early 80's then they drafted Lemieux and that was all she wrote for me. The rest of it I get, just jealousy, it happens. As long as the fans aren't the schadenfreude type I dont mind them. The ones that just laugh or want to see you miserable can all die in a blue hellfire. But I digress

Because they show up in our arena and are assholes. Same as Cubs fans in Cincy. At least the Pens have titles to back up being arrogant dicks?

I'm a bit of an NHL vagabond. Growing up in NE Ohio, there was no team. Detroit wasn't an option because _ichigan. I rebelled against my family and pissed on all teams PGH. As a yoot, I always cheered for the Oilers because, well , Gretzky. Still root for them to this day. I also followed the Sabres because I loved Mogilny/LaFontaine/Hasek and grew up listening to Rick Jeanerette. Had a snazzy Sabres Starter jacket in 8th grade. Still root for them. Will always root for the CBJ. I've taken a bit of a liking to the Wild because being in Omaha, they're the closest team and I've been to a couple of their games up there and they're a blast. It helps that they now play a watchable brand of Hockey because of Kaprizov. It's the one league I don't have ONE team I'm solely attached to.

This. I started watching hockey late night tv and caught numerous Oilers games and that team was just amazing which everyone knows. I just decided I wanted to root for an American team and Pittsburgh was the closest to Cincy. Since I'm not a Bengals fan the Pittsburgh thing never really bothered me that much. Reds beat the Pirates and as a Dolphin fan, Marino was from Pitt so no big deal to me. When CBJ started I rooted for them being in the West but the realignment killed that. Im a staunch supporter of all my teams hence the fracking Reds so it's only happened once for me to change teams and that was from the Hawks to Cavs. The Buckeye blood does run thick but so does my loyalty I guess.
