NFL Rumors (Trades/Free Agents)

Most of the non-Georgia resident Falcon fans, that I know, are either fans from back when Deion Sanders and Glanville (switch to black unis) were there, or the younger ones are Michael Vick fans. Just like nearly every other football fan that doesn't root for a team geographically close to them. Start to follow a player, and end up rooting for a team. It's either that or blindly root for a close to home jersey with a tradition of losing...like I do. :smash:

Well, they are historically inept, their players suck, for the most part, the face of their franchise is Mike Vick/Ron Mexico, they play in a second-rate facility, their owner is an asshole, they have to be one of the worst drafting teams in history (Aundray Bruce, Bruce Pickens, Roddy White), their merchandise is horrendous... there are probably a few other reasons, but that pretty much covers it, I guess.

so whats the hatred against my boys?

:slappy: I fall in that same boat of blind loyalty. Although it took me until I got older to make that plunge. I grew up a Cowboys fan, from the time I was little, I just loved that team because I think, the star on the helmet. These are things that impress you when you are like 7 years old. I don't think the cheerleaders hurt either. I still have my Tony Dorsett jersey from when I was a kid. I still root for the 'Boys, but the Browns are my #1 now. I just think it is more special to pull for your local team, you just feel closer to the team that represents your city/state.

actually you pretty much nailed it on the head with the first scenerio.

The thing that originally brought me to the falcons was I was a big Deion Sanders fan and I stayed with the Falcons when he left them.

But now deion is number 3 of my all time favorite players.
Keith Brooking is #1 and Tommy Nobis (the unicorn as everyone i know calls him) is #2

No hatred, but I've spent about thirty of my 37 years in Atlanta and watched it all. I actually got excited about them in 1980, had a great poster I got from a Big Star supermarket of a Falcon and their linebackers (Buddy Curry and even I don't remember the other two). I used to pretend to be Wallace Francis catching bombs from Bartkowski in my front yard. They were 12-4 that year and we all thought they had turned the corner. After all, how could you not be successful in football in the SE? The following season they were under .500 and you, presumably, know the rest.

They suck, they always have, they always will. Since 1966, Tampa Bay, Carolina, and Tennessee have all been WAY better and proved that to perpetually suck in the SE US, it takes hard work. The 1998 year was an aberration. Even had Eugene Robinson not decided to have his johnson sucked by an undercover cop (has there ever been a more perfect metaphor for a team?) the night before the Super Bowl, they would've gotten their ass kicked. They suck, they're nothing but cheese with the second-tier arena league uniforms and they ought to just move to Birmingham.

No hate, though, dude. :)

Thats cool, even thought they suck i will stick by them. Hopefully sooner or later they can put two winning seasons back to back (you know the falcons are the only team never to do it in their history).
