NFL Rumors (Trades/Free Agents)

Great pickup for the Jets. They were pretty much in dire need for a runningback and it seems like they found a solid one in Thomas Jones. Is a second round pick a little high though? I though maybe a third rounder at least and another player maybe. But overall great pickup for the Jets.

According to league sources, the Bears have agreed to trade RB Thomas Jones and a 2007 second-round pick (No. 63 overall) to the Jets for a 2007 second-round pick -- No. 37 overall -- which was acquired previously in a trade from Washington, ESPN.com's Michael Smith reported.......pretty good deal for the Jets IMO.

Wow isn't a 2nd round pick a lot to give up for Welker?

I look at it this way... He's an up and coming WR with deep threat speed and returnability (both things the Pats need). He is becoming a nice playmaker that led Miami in receptions, KO returns, and punt returns this past year...
We have 2 1st rounders, so the late 2nd round pick isn't that much of a hit. By trading for him and kicking in the 7th rounder, we save cap space, as he was a RFA that we would have had to sign to a sizable offer sheet... So it helps us all the way around... Plus we have Donte Stallworth in town right now for a visit, which is possible because of the cap space saved from not having to sign Welker to a huge offer sheet... I really am excited about the moves the Pats are making...

So I think we can end the talk of Gonzo to the Pats in the first round with this pick up...

Most likely... But BB and SP always claim they go for the best player available (according to their board), so it's usually anyone's guess... I think they will try to address ILB and DB in the first round... If Willis and Poz are off the board, then I see them going DB with both of their firsts, although a DT (like Tank Tyler) could also be a possibility as a backup for FA to be Vince Wilfork...

They gave the 2nd rounder because they would have had to given it to Miami as compensation when they made the original offer sheet to Welker. I guess the Pats put in a "poison pill" clause in the contract offer that the contract would be fully guaranteed if he played 4 games in Florida. Smart move by them.
