NFL Replacement refs...What if?

SAD04_NFL.JPG

Shannon Eastin took the field Thursday night, she made history as the first woman to officiate an NFL game.

Anyone watch the Green Bay - San Diego game and see how she did?

Based on her photo, did anyone notice that she was a woman?

Now the players

Throughout this preseason there has been a plethora of complaints from NFL players regarding the use of replacement officials -- and rightfully so.

Mostly the players have griped about the refs being flag happy and not knowing the rules, but nothing about safety.

Enter NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith who, in an extensive interview with Sports Illustrated's Jim Trotter, didn't rule out the possibility of a strike out of concern for player safety.

The NFL makes so much money it seems like it would be worth it to pay the refs $200-500K and make it a full time job. That way they could spend their whole off-season honing their skill and mastering the rule book. Seems like that would only make the game better while still paying refs less than your lowest paid players.
