OVERVIEW

Talented athlete who showed in 2002 that he had the ability to energize the Buckeyes in their march to the national title. Clarett displayed the ability to run over, around or by defenders with amazing vision and patience for a player of such a young age.

Clarett was regarded as the best prep player in the country while at Harding High, earning USA Today Ohio Player of the Year honors after rushing for 2,194 yards and 38 touchdowns, adding 19 catches for 351 yards and six scores as a senior. He also rushed for 785 yards and eight touchdowns in the playoffs, including 401 yards and five scores in the regional semifinals. During his time at Harding, he totaled 65 scores on 4,675 yards rushing, but did have injury problems.

In just one short season with the Buckeyes, he gained 1,237 yards with 16 touchdowns on 222 carries (5.6 avg) and averaged 121.9 all-purpose yards per game.

ANALYSIS

Positives: Before being dismissed from the school in 2003, he showed a thick, muscular frame with little body fat, well-defined thighs and calves, a big bubble and natural hands … Tough, rugged player with modest speed, good balance and change-of-direction agility … Explosive in his start, showing a sudden burst through the holes … Changes gears instantly and has above-average hip swerve and body control … Flashes a good short burst to the hole, stays low in his pads and drives hard with his legs to move the pile … Effective at running at a low-pad level, bouncing to the corner quickly when the rush lanes are clogged … Best when running between tackles, so he can pick and slide while keeping his pads low through the hole … Gets in and out of the holes quickly and shows good lateral agility to cut back … Has a fluid running motion and shows the leg drive and power to rock defenders back when he breaks into the second level … Also does a fine job of squeezing through tight quarters and despite his powerful frame and lack of top-end speed … He's a "make you miss" type when turning the corner … Has natural hands in short-area passing situations, where he was utilized mostly on screens and flats.

Negatives: He has good size, but the tight muscle frame he showed prior to the 2002 season appeared softer in 2004 workouts … Relies more on his burst and leg drive to get tough yardage inside … Has to run very low to the ground to compensate for a lack of top-end speed … Prone to fumbling when arm tackled (poor ball security) … Lack of knee lift gets him tripped up a little too much … Has decent vision to pick and slide on his outside runs and can redirect inside with precision, but needs to keep his shoulders square when running up the gut … Adequate blocker against the blitz, but will not perform even marginally as a lead blocker … Decent safety valve as a receiver, but mental lapses and an inability to extend for the ball relegates him to swings and dump-offs … Tends to round his cuts in his pass routes, but does a nice job coming back for the ball … Has durability issues and seems to let minor injuries linger more than they should … Needs to show better maturity off the field, as his incidents with coaches, school and authorities are well-documented.

INJURY REPORT

Missed two games as a sophomore and another two as a junior with a knee injury at Harding High … Also missed part of the season opener in 2001 at Harding due to a thumb sprain … Underwent surgery on the thumb before reporting to Ohio State in 2002 … Suffered a slightly torn meniscus in his right knee early in the first quarter of the 2002 Washington State game, undergoing arthroscopic surgery that would sideline him the next week against Cincinnati … Suffered a stinger in his left shoulder on the final drive of the 2002 Wisconsin game. Played the following week against Penn State, but left the game due to the shoulder injury, sitting out the Minnesota clash. Returned to play briefly against Purdue, but was again sidelined with the shoulder injury, missing the next game against Illinois.

No shit, bro. A couple years ago when I was lifting fairly regularly and was getting 330-340 max up, I fuckin' started with a set of 10 at 225. Hell, I benched heavy last night for the first time in months and got a set of 10 at 225 (barely got 300 up max, though).

OVERVIEW

One of the best long snappers in the game, Andrews has never had an errant snap in three years of handling those chores for the Buckeyes. He has also proven to be a capable tackler for the coverage units.

Andrews was a defensive tackle as a sophomore and junior and moved to defensive end his senior year at Middletown High School. He earned second-team all-league and honorable mention All-Southwestern Ohio honors as a senior.

He handled all the centering on punts and place kicks for the last three years at Ohio State and played in 41 consecutive games. He played a key role in the success of the Buckeyes' kicking game and All-Americans Andy Groom, B.J. Sander and all-time leading scorer Mike Nugent (22 school records).

ANALYSIS

Positives: Has an adequate frame with good muscle definition … One of the best at his position, averaging 0.67 seconds on his snap to toe count from 14½-yards out … Practices his trade hard and plays with confidence, showing enough speed and good determination to get down field and help support the coverage unit … Has a low center of gravity and good arm flexibility … Comes off the snap to drive defenders off the line with his leg drive … On punts, his accuracy is above average, consistently getting the ball right into the punter's chest and places lots of zip on the ball … Also shows adequate accuracy and velocity on his field goal snaps.

Negatives: Short, squatty type who offers minimal value as a defensive lineman … Has good size for a snapper, but lacks bulk to play as a down lineman … Struggles some with defenders lining up directly on his head, lacking the leg strength to anchor and prevent from being pushed back into the up-back … Will lend support to the coverage unit, but is not an effective tackler, spending more time lunging and making arm tackles rather than wrapping and securing.

INJURY REPORT

No injuries reported.

AGILITY

Campus: 4.9 in the 40-yard dash … 350-pound bench press … Bench presses 225 pounds 15 times … 610-pound squat … 345-pound hang clean … 3.96 20-yard shuttle … 31-inch vertical jump … 8-foot-11 broad jump … 29¼-inch arm length … 9¼-inch hands … Right-handed.

OVERVIEW

The anchor of the Buckeyes' defensive front at the left defensive end position for the 2004 season, Fraser was the lone holdover from 2003 on the defensive line and the team's most experienced player up front. Fraser is a three-time OSU Scholar-Athlete selection and a two-time Academic All-Big Ten Conference honoree. Fraser was a first-team Division I Associated Press All-Ohio selection as a junior and senior at Upper Arlington High School. He helped the team win the 2000 Division I state championship and posted a perfect 15-0 record. That season, Fraser totaled 130 tackles, 30 sacks, six forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. He had 115 tackles and 18 sacks as a junior. Fraser also played basketball and ran track (110 hurdles, shot put and discus). He qualified for the state championship meet as a junior in the shot put.

Fraser played in 12 games as a true freshman, recording six tackles (four solos) with a sack and three stops for losses as a reserve defensive end. He was part of a three-man rotation at defensive end in 2002, posting 20 tackles (13 solos), five sacks, seven stops behind the line of scrimmage, five pass deflections and two forced fumbles.

Fraser started 12 games at left end in 2003, producing 34 tackles (19 solos) with 1½ sacks, seven stops for losses and five deflected passes. He was named team co-captain and voted Ohio State's Jack Stephenson Defensive Lineman of the Year by his teammates, adding second-team All-Big Ten honors in 2004. During his final year, he was in on 28 tackles (12 solos) with 2½ sacks, five stops behind the line of scrimmage and six pass deflections. He closed out his career by starting 26 of 51 games. Fraser recorded 88 tackles (48 solos) with 10 sacks for minus-55 yards, 22 stops for losses of 93 yards, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and 16 pass deflections.

ANALYSIS

Positives: Has a tall, athletic frame with a great arm reach that he utilizes well to knock down passes at the line of scrimmage … Has thick arms and upper body with a good bubble and thick thighs … All-out hustler with good durability … Has adequate initial quickness and is quick to read and diagnose the plays … Uses his hand strength effectively to generate powerful arm swipes to escape blocks … Has potential to be a decent leverage player if he can continue to improve his ability to maintain balance and position against the larger blockers … Gets adequate separation when taking on blocks, delivering a forceful hand jolt to redirect his opponents … Takes proper angles in his lateral pursuit and shows urgency and effort getting to the ball carrier … Has the strength to drag the opponent to the ground quickly and shows decent agility dropping back in the short area in pass coverage … Knows how to extend his arms and use his hands to keep blockers off his feet … Has the frame to add more bulk without any drop-off in speed. Negatives: Gets too erect in his stance and when he gets too high, he is quickly ridden out of the play by the larger blockers when trying to redirect inside … Lacks natural explosion coming off the snap … Sometimes looks hesitant reacting to the ball, especially when called upon to cover and re-route tight ends … May not have the hip swerve needed to make the plays in pursuit, as he gets too straight-legged, losing strength and power … Because of his height, he will struggle at times to gain leverage, but compensates with his toughness and hustle … Not really effective as a pass rusher, as he lacks a burst needed to be consistent coming off the edge … Lacks fluid change-of-direction agility due to poor knee bend.
