NFL Draft, Cam Heyward, and Fake Locker

It's crazy what they're doing to Ryan Mallett with the character assassination.

About 98.9% of it is complete fabrication.

Here are the facts:

1. He had one very minor brush with the law
2. He's never failed a drug test
3. He's a solid leader
4. He works extremely hard in the film room and practice field
5. His arm is an exceedingly rare thing
6. He is bright and has a very high football IQ
7. He's cocky but not arrogant
8. He is slow of foot

But to hear the ESPN wankers and some of the other talking heads tell it, you'd think he is a drug-addicted child molester who bathes in the blood of sacrificed kitties while singing Air Supply songs and should just go ahead and give up the dream of an NFL career because it's hopeless already.

I figure he must have:

A) Stinkholed someone's girlfriend or daughter
B) Some team drafting late in the first round is trying to drive him down so they can get him
C) Some other players agent is trying to drive him down so his client will get picked higher
D) Haters gonna hate

They're taking revenge for him losing to Ohio State.

I was watching Gruden's QB Camp last night - they had Mallett on there. There was a point where Gruden was getting on Mallett about taking unnecessary hits - and you could tell Mallett was getting a bit warm.

Gruden asked him, "Am I pissing you off right now?"

Mallett: "No sir." (with a smile)

Didn't help the cause that he's associating himself with another well known self-destructer John Daly (who came on the show).

He probably didn't ask him to, but a known recovering alcohol addict isn't the person you want sitting next to you when you're trying to shake drug allegations, IMHO.

Mallett needs to go to a small market team, somewhere far away from Bristol, Conn.

Yeah, apparently, they have a problem with being honest and mature. So, he says in the public that he's not discussing the matter, then behind closed doors he admits to it.

Shows maturity to me on his part, but it shows the serpent like aggression of the NFL - he probably laid his cards on the table to the TEAMs that were interested in him.

Doesn't matter - if a team is interested in him, they'll give him a chance. While it's nice to be drafted in the first round, many first rounders just don't pan out. They're getting pissy cause he would answer THEIR questions, but he answered the questions of the teams that will employ him. How dare he?!?

Ryan Mallett's willingness to address drug use seen as positive

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on April 18, 2011, 2:29 PM EDT

No one has been the subject of more pre-draft rumors and innuendo than Ryan Mallett. He faced a number of questions about possible drug use at the Combine from the media, but said that information would stay between him and the team.

According to Nolan Nawrocki of Pro Football Weekly, Mallett came clean to teams behind closed doors.

"One G.M. said Mallett was the first quarterback ever to admit his drug usage to him in interviews, and his willingness to be honest about his past and acknowledge issues is viewed as a positive," Nawrocki writes.

"Concerns about his history of use could impact his draft position, though."

The report doesn?t indicate what drug use Mallett copped to, but it appears he never failed a test.

"Although Mallett did not produce an official positive test at Arkansas, he has been arrested for public intoxication and carries a reputation as a 'big party guy,' per sources who have interviewed him," Nawrocki writes. "How much teams believe he has matured will weigh into his draft status."

No matter what Mallett did at school, we believe it's better that he addressed the issue head on when meeting with teams, even if he didn't address the rumors with the media.

If he never failed a drug test then why admit the drug use?

Maybe that's the remaining 1.1% that isn't complete fabrication.

BTW this thread needs a title change it has little to nothing to do with Heyward or Locker anymore.

Here comes a lengthy post, sorry guys.

You have three different seniors. Yes, one isn't a QB - but he's still going to be a first rounder. Yet, the examples of all three kind of 'intertwine' with one another. Here's why:

1. Hayward voiced that he has a plan after school. He still wants to be a teacher, that's his goal. I applaud and commend him for having one, and a noble one at that. If he pans out to be a star player in the NFL and is able to make it a career, he won't have to teach at all, obviously. But he still wanted to teach, even after his playing days are over. I have to look at his parents and say that they did a supurb job in raising the young man, especially since he lost his father at a very delicate time in a young man's life.

2. I have yet to hear from Fake and Mallett what their after FB plans are, but I'm sure that's the same for most kids entering the draft with aspirations of playing at the next level. They don't understand that they're being served up (with Mallett already getting bites taken out of em) on a platter for the public to devour. And the QB position is supposed to be the #1 spot on the team (thinking of Pacino in Any Given Sunday).

3. I'm sure Jake is a nice guy, and a good teammate too. He's got the support of his peers for the most part, and the support of his family. Unfortunately, Jake Locker morphs into Fake Locker when he hits the football field. And my problem with that is it's not even of his own doing - it's of the media's doing. Same with sCam and Gabbert - I don't see them doing the best. I hope I'm wrong, for their sakes.

4. Comparing post-college Mallett and post-college Fake is important, because it shows that if you're a 'media darling' you get all kinds of press. A good point in case - Ndamukong Suh. Probably one of, if not the most dominant defensive tackle to ever play college football, flew under the radar...till his senior season. Then, all because he was dominating in the Missouri game his senior season, people took note. Doing that game? Rece Davis, Craig James, and Jesse Palmer, I believe. The media's love fest with him took off (unfortunately their pronounciation of his name didn't), and he got the recognition he deserved. Hayword is in that same mold - under the radar, but you guys know (as I do as well from watching him) that he's a dominant player on the D line.

So, if I'm in an NFL war room, depending on the needs, I have Hayward rated over ALL the QBs in this draft class. But the first QB off my board would be Mallet.

There isn't one credible (or even incredible) bit of evidence that this is true, and Nawrocki has been on Mallett's tits from day one.

I figure Nawrocki is on somebody's payroll.

Ryan Mallett wants to be a coach after his playing days are over.
