NFL Discussion (Official Thread)

But...but... he could break clay pigeons with a football!!!

You're not wrong though.
Both were ludicrous decisions. But drafting a near 30 year old system QB still just blows my mind. Look back at history and try to find how many QBs became starters in their late-20s and had successful careers. I'm not gonna do the research, but I think it's a solid bet that it is a very small number. Now try to find a QB who didn't even break into the league until that age and still had success. There's not much research required, the list is Kurt Warner. That's it. Kurt Warner was an anomaly and they were betting a 1st round pick on Brandon Weeden, an air raid system QB, becoming another Kurt Warner. It was stupid on a galactic-scale. Drafting a 23 year old air raid QB in round 1 is a risk; drafting one at Weeden's age was gross incompetence.

There really should be a Farrelly Brothers Comedy made about the Clowns.

Meh, Weeden actually had NFL measurables at least and wasn't a head case apart from just being plain dumb

Taking an undersized, alcoholic party boy with incredibly questionable play against top 50 defenses was the definition of going Full Retard.

Weeden was past his athletic prime before taking a snap in the NFL. I’d argue it was one of the worst draft picks of all time.

Manziel at least had time. Guys Weeden’s age are usually done with their NFL careers by that age.

Pretty impressive that the Browns managed to get both, regardless.

Throw in a helping of Trent Richardson and Justin Gilbert, two of the worst players at their respective positions I've seen in the NFL...and...wooh doggy...that's quite a couple of years. The best part of all of it was they had a chance to remedy the Richardson mistake, but used the pick to draft...JOHNNY FOOTBAW. Whoopsies.

Trent Richardson was the biggest "WTF" I've ever seen. Dude was a lock to be a star and came out like he was going to own the league and then, no and done.

Zero vision. None. There are memes about the holes he missed. It's easy to be a stud in college when you can use your superior athleticism and you have your lines at bammer open gargantuan holes for you to burst through. When you're facing equal athletes and have to find holes, you can look very ordinary to just awful if you don't have the vision. Trent Richardson had no vision.
