NEW YORK -- It was the day before New Year's Eve, and New Yorkers were leaving the city in droves. Not to escape Times Square celebrations, but to watch the NFL Championship game.

On Dec. 30, 1962, the Yankee Stadium championship rematch between the Giants and the Green Bay Packers was blacked out on local television. Enterprising fans fled to southern New Jersey, searching for the broadcast from Philadelphia, or north to receive the signal from Hartford, Conn.

Surprisingly good column from the local guy, his first,(good one, that is) I believe...

And so, this is what I wish for all of us today as we settle in for these two games: I wish for two games so well-played and so memorable that some little boy, just figuring out how much he loves sports, will still remember them nearly a half-century later.

Nice sack AJ!

Players of the half --

For the Giants Pierce - whose stop prevented a pretty sure touchdown.

Burress - who is having a hell of a game thus far 7 catches for 105 yards

Manning is throwing well despite cold 10-22 131 yards. Sacked once.

For the Pack

Driver clearly is the difference maker, and one of the sure-handed receivers out there.

Favre has good stats with 10-18 163 yards and a TD.

On Defense AJ has been one of several players keeping Jacobs in check - that fast at 265 pounds Jacobs should be illegal in 50 states.
