Isn't that what the offseason is for? Panic, overly-worrying about the life decisions of 17-22 year olds and constantly fretting that Ohio State won't be "perfect" next year?
There are always varying degrees of it. To each their own. I will say that I don’t think they offered four different OT’s in the portal because they think every OL question can be answered internally.

How much or how little people want to read into the 0-4 on those offers is up to them but the offers weren’t made for no reason.

Ohio State received three pieces of bad news and one piece of good news regarding its 2023 offensive line in a 24-hour span between Tuesday and Wednesday.

The first piece of news, Paris Johnson Jr. declaring for the 2023 NFL draft, didn’t come as any surprise. Still, it confirmed the reality that Ohio State will need to replace both of its starting offensive tackles next season, as Dawand Jones (who confirmed his NFL draft entry Wednesday) had already signaled his intention to go pro when he accepted a Senior Bowl invitation in December.

That’s why Ohio State has been actively pursuing transfer offensive tackles, offering scholarships to four different tackles in the portal. The last of those four offensive tackles came off the board Tuesday, however, when former Washington State OT Jarrett Kingston signed with USC.

Come Tuesday night, Ohio State lost another member of its starting offensive line from this past season when Luke Wypler announced he would enter this year’s NFL draft. That news, which was far less of a foregone conclusion than Johnson going pro, leaves the Buckeyes needing to replace three of their starting offensive linemen from 2022.

The good news came Wednesday morning, when Matt Jones announced he will use his sixth year of eligibility to play another season at Ohio State. That gives the Buckeyes two returning starters on their offensive line for 2023, as Donovan Jackson is not yet eligible to enter the NFL draft.

PRE-SPRING OFFENSIVE LINE DEPTH CHART PROJECTION
LEFT TACKLE LEFT GUARD CENTER RIGHT GUARD RIGHT TACKLE
ZEN MICHALSKI DONOVAN JACKSON MATT JONES ENOKK VIMAHI JOSH FRYAR
LUKE MONTGOMERY BEN CHRISTMAN JAKOB JAMES TEGRA TSHABOLA GEORGE FITZPATRICK
MILES WALKER CARSON HINZMAN JOSHUA PADILLA AUSTIN SIEREVELD GRANT TOUTANT

There are varying degrees. However, pretty much everything is panic or pearl clutching on social media about it.

Reasonable concerns about depth make perfect sense to me, I have them too. However, we're not in the room or seeing these guys put in the work every day. There are literally people on 11W and other places thinking the entire team is going to disband because the tackles went pro and because the DBs had a slightly less bad season than the year before. That's not going to be the case.

I also want to point this out - not specifically to you Jax but to everyone - look at virtually every "big" SEC SEC SEC game this year. Defense almost always takes a back seat in those games. Bama/Tennecheat, Bama/LSU, Tennecheat/Cocks, etc. The only SEC SEC SEC team that played defense occasionally against similar talent was UGA and even that might have been more of a mirage against Tennecheat than a real trend given their performances against LSU and Ohio State. I'm not saying defense doesn't matter - it wins championships - but I do think the performance we saw in the Peach Bowl was very similar in pattern to what we've seen from the SEC, Big 12 and PAC 12 over the years - defense optional at times.

I’m just tired of seeing the constant angst that’s going on in about 4-5 threads regarding the Oline. As Dr. Rick said “we all see it”….

Over at ESPN, they asked coaches and reporters under the guise of anonymity to predict what will happen in 2023, and their response about Ohio State and the Big Ten was very telling.

They claimed Ohio State has “lost its grip” on the conference (subscription required), with two teams in the upcoming season having the ability to take the crown, Penn State and Michigan.

Wishful thinking by anonymous coaches (i.e. Harbaugh and Franklin).

Next year doesn't set up very favorably for Ohio State....I could easily see a 3 loss season. Schedule is pretty brutal, breaking in a new QB, lot of moving pieces on O-line, and the defense needs to make a pretty substantial improvement.

Will be interesting to see how the year progresses.

We were a top 15 defense this past year. We just have to cut down in the long TDs we gave up at the end of the year. With our front 6 all back (the 6 that should've been playing anyways), Styles is a massive upgrade at safety, and a more veteran corner group there's no reason why this defense can't make that final step.

Certainly can see multiple losses although I don't think that's very likely. We get Penn State at home and I think they lose too much on defense. Wisconsin is normally tough in their house but there's a huge gap between OSU/Wisconsin right now. Which leaves ND who more or less losses everyone in their front 7, their best corner and their best safety as well (although their offense should be improved).

Really that leaves ttun as the big one and yeah there's no doubt thats a coin flip game.

Overall games ranked in difficulty.

1. Ttun (by far)
2. Penn State
3. Notre Dame
4. Wisconsin
