  • Early today my son's wife gave birth to the newest Buckeye in Charlotte, NC. Baby Kai came in at almost 9 lbs. and 21 1/2 inches long. I will not get to see the future middle linebacker until tomorrow when I fly home tonight (redeye) from San Francisco. My wife is telling me our son is walking around the hospital either with the baby in his arms or with a shit eating grin, sometimes both.

The hospital staff is allowing you son to hold/carry a baby less than a day old? Call me overprotective but that sounds a little scary.

Oh, and by the way, congrats!
I held my daughter when she was like a half hour old. I mean shit, we had great nurses, but there wasn't a fucking person in that hospital that was more careful than I was with her.

Leading up to the day, I kept having nightmares that I was going to sneeze while holding her and her eyes were gonna pop out of her head.

Like what @BUCKYLE said, I held both of my kids within 10 minutes of them being born, weighed/measured and cleaned up.
I also held my both daughters right after their birth, but allowing a kid (I'm assuming his son isn't in his teens yet) to hold an hours-old newborn is a different matter. I remember the nurse first showing me how to hold my first daughter and then proceeding to hold her like football along her forearm and swing her around a bit to show "how safe it is"...it was all I could do to keep from strangling her once she gave my daughter back to my then-wife.

    I think it's his son's kid. I hope he's older than 13.

When they put my daughter onto the scale, they rolled her out of the towel and bumped her head on the scale. If my mom hadn't seen my face and grabbed my arm I may have bounced the nurses head off something

I'm going to guess that this is Wingate's son holding his grandchild....
