New Reds owner fires GM O'Brien

Underscoring the differences in style Castellini to O'Brien -- todays radio round Cinci has the following tid-bit.

A day or so prior to Catellini's ouster of O'Brien Davey boy just could not pull the trigger on a trade that would have been a three-way involving the Reds, Red Sox, and Indians. Players moved would have been Kearns (Reds to the Indians), Matt Clement (Red Sox to the Reds) Coco Crisp, catcher Bard and pitcher David Riske from the Indians to the Red Sox.

Was this a straw that broke a camel's back?

The camel was fucking dead after Milton and Ortiz. Anything after that was just conversation.

Word is they may be shopping Kearns around for a pitcher.

There might be a 3 way trade with the indians and Red sox where we could get Clement from teh Red sox or just Westbrook from the Indians.

Heard this on ESPN radio this morning. I will see if I can find any sort of article on it.

Edit: I found somthing on mlb.com/rumors

Austin Kearns- the Reds have reportedly offered Kearns to CHI for Sergio Mitre and another minor leaguer (likely a pitcher)...Twins, Padres, Pirates and Cards also interested...the Reds have asked for Jerome Williams instead of Mitre and the Cubs agreed to that...Cubs' GM Jim Hendry declines that he has spoke with the Reds...Cubs also willing to deal Ricky Nolasco or add Todd Wellemyer to a deal for Kearns...BOS has offered Youkilis and Arroyo for him...CIN doesn't want Miguel Batista for him...more likely that he will be dealt by start of the season now...CLE, WAS, KC, STL and CHC have shown interest...CLE recently offered Jake Westbrook for him and KC would be willing to deal Affeldt or MacDougal but not Greinke...CIN also backed out of a deal that would have netted them Matt Clement with Austin Kearns going to CLE and Coco Crisp to BOS

It's all on ESPN Insider, I read about it yesterday, you are correct.

The three-way would be
Indians get: Kearns and Marte
Reds get: Clement and Schoppal
Sox get: Crisp, Bard, and Riske

and theres a rumor that its just going to be Kearns for Westbrook straight up.

Minnesota’s Wayne Krivsky will be interviewed next week for the Cincinnati Reds’ job as general manager.

Krivsky, an assistant general manager with the Twins since 1998, also was a candidate for the job in 2003, when the Reds chose Dan O’Brien. New owner Bob Castellini fired O’Brien on Monday, saying he wanted to bring in his own man.
Castellini plans to interview between six and eight candidates. Krivsky is the first to have an interview arranged.

In defense of O'Brien (last time you'll hear me say that...), the trade wasn't not made because the old GM was too dumb to pull the trigger. According to Jayson Stark of ESPN.com, Castellini may be the one who's reluctant to pull the trigger - he may not want to get involved in a big trade so early in his ownership.

I for one wouldn't mind the trade, especially if it brings legitimate pitching to Cincinnati. I'm also a bit of an Austin Kearns fan though, and if he's gonna put it together like we've all been told he will, I'd like to see him do it in a Reds uniform. I know this team needs to get better, but I'm tired of seeing all my favorite players get sent away.

I'm glad that they finally made Krivsky an official candidate. Minnesota has been in the same small-market position as the Reds and their front office has definitely become known for their talent evaluations at both the major and minor league levels. I like Krivsky for the job, I also wouldn't mind Antonetti, the assistant from Cleveland. Hell, from what I've read I wouldn't be opposed to the woman, Kim Ng, the assistant in LA either (if ashe ever becomes an official candidate).

Ptiching wins games, not avg. hitting and a guy that can't stay healthy.

Give me pitching every day of the week and twice on sunday. No questions asked. That has been the problem in Cincy for the past so many years. No pitching to match the aces in our league.
