I stayed up 'til around midnight last night to finish. Great books, great ending.

I loved the pensieve (sp?) scenes towards the end. Tied some things up nicely - though I kinda figured .... well, I won't spoil anything I guess. :p

I'll be interested to see if J.K. Rowling writes anything else. You know, when she's not out spending her billions.

She has plans to possibly release an encyclopedia of the Potter world. She has many back stories that she feels need to be told.

Rowling outs Dumbledore ..

Nope, not a joke.

Harry Potter author JK Rowling has revealed that one of her characters, Hogwarts school headmaster Albus Dumbledore, is gay. She made her revelation to a packed house in New York's Carnegie Hall on Friday, as part of her US book tour.
She took audience questions and was asked if Dumbledore found "true love".
"Dumbledore is gay," she said, adding he was smitten with rival Gellert Grindelwald, who he beat in a battle between good and bad wizards long ago.
The audience gasped, then applauded. "I would have told you earlier if I knew it would make you so happy," she said.
"Falling in love can blind us to an extent," she added, saying Dumbledore was "horribly, terribly let down" and his love for Grindelwald was his "great tragedy".

Inevitably this wasn't good enough for some - including gay rights activists ...

Gay rights campaigner Peter Tatchell welcomed the news about Dumbledore and said: "It's good that children's literature includes the reality of gay people, since we exist in every society.
"But I am disappointed that she did not make Dumbledore's sexuality explicit in the Harry Potter book. Making it obvious would have sent a much more powerful message of understanding and acceptance."
And a spokesman for gay rights group Stonewall added: "It's great that JK has said this. It shows that there's no limit to what gay and lesbian people can do, even being a wizard headmaster."

Of course this will provide more ammo for those obsessed with the perceived anti-religious or moral leanings of the Potter books ...

But she added that not everyone likes her work. Christian groups have alleged the books promote witchcraft. The author said her revelation about Dumbledore would give them one more reason.

Now why it would be a revelation that a closeted headmaster at an English boarding school might be gay is quite beyond me. Puts a whole new spin on those one-one lessons Dumbledore arranged for Potter.

Actually, the thing I like best about the series is the revelation that almost all of the characters have "flaws", and that the characters find out that people who they think are perfect are not so perfect. Also, good people do bad things when put under pressure, or when their loved ones are in danger, but despite that, you can never tell who will rise to the occasion despite their flaws and fear.

Finally, most of what is achieved by the "good guys" in the series (although sometimes with tragic results) is the result of love. Even bad characters love their family...with Bellatrix Lestrange being the exception. She'd be the crazy kinky witch with the - ahem - magic phallus spells.
