I have an apartment that is cable ready (there is a phone line also, but I only pay for my cell). I have tried all kinds of sites, and am typically required to enter my telephone number to check on availability, which obviously doesn't work in my case.

Maybe you guys can help me out.

1) Do I have to pay for a land-line every month to get DSL? Or is it possible to run DSL thru a phone line without doing that?

2) Are there any good cable internet options in Columbus?

3) Any recommendations you can make about Columbus DSL/Cable companies would be great. I'm living in Dublin(zip: 43017).

You have to pay for a land line each month. Who is your telco there?

Time warner cable up there....it's pretty good stuff from what I have been told. DSL is much cheaper. If you have SBC for your telco (or would have if you ordered phone service), their DSL runs $14.95 a month.

I have TW cable and Roadrunner and it runs roughly $90 a month with the HD gold package which is only $7 a month. When I lived on campus we had WOW cable and high speed internet which was about 20 greenbacks cheaper a month though the cable wasn't as great but that was 2 years ago and by now might be considerably better. I don't know anybody that has it now though I would try it but they don't offer it in my apartment complex. As far as DSL lines go I'm not positive we don't have a land line because we both have cell phones and there is no need for one. Hopefully all that jiberish can help

jwinslow,

I would go with Time Warner, I have had them for cable and high speed for a few years now and have had no problems. SBC is going to fuck you over for even the most basic phone set up in your house.

WOW is a great service. I have the basic cable plus cable internet for $68/month and have never had any issues with either. The basic cable has around 75 channels included and you can customize what kind of internet download you want... I have 4MB download and believe they have 112K (twice dialup), 200K, and 6MB. They also have digital phone and I believe you can bundle all three for $90/month.

major greens for you, this sounds like a great option. Fast internet, and cheap cable... all for around what I'd like to spend for both $60ish or less

I have had roadrunner for 4 years now and have to say i am pleased. They recently upgraded their bandwidth and I have seen speeds up to 1.2 MB/sec downloading...uploading is still a shitty 60KB/sec but that's not nearly important. I called and bitched about pricing and now have digital cable and the faster roadrunner speed for $80 a month. Just compare their price to an equivalent of WOW and they will charge you less

Is there anything better about TimeWarner's cable than Wow's? The internet is gonna be a tossup I bet... so let's focus on the TV end of things.

Anyone know of anything to point out in that comparison?

$144 per year (80-68 * 12) is a lot for stations I never watch... on a tight budget (being a recent grad and scraping by, stupid job market).

Hmm, well for one thing Time Warner apparently doesn't have ONN, which is a channel I want.

weird, I guess the search function didn't work right for me. Even still, it comes with the basic package with Wow. Different strokes for different folks.
