Nebraska Cornhuskers (corn)

I think we really have to start asking if Nebraska's days as a national power are so far gone that they will never return to that status.
They've been gone for over a decade. Nobody looks at corn as a power anymore, and losses like Saturday are just shrugged off with "eh, it's corn."

They have serious obstacles to ever getting back. Poor recruiting base, location, etc. I don't think they'll ever approach what they were in the 90's again.

Before the game on Saturday, I passed some Nebraska and Wisconsin fans who were engaged in some well-meaning shit-talking. The usual barbs were exchanged ("We're the real big red," "Nice mullet, fatass," "Watch out for batteries!") before Nebraska guy pulled his trump card: "WHERE ARE YOUR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS??" He was even wearing a Starter jacket. In a way, that encapsulated what I see as the problem for Nebraska: it ain't 1995 anymore, and Tommie Frazier ain't walking through that door. I don't think the fan base has recalibrated their collective expectations yet.

Amen to this. We got folks here that WHINE ABOUT MUSIC AT THE STADIUMS.
Come on. Was watching Da U/FreeShoes game on Saturday, and the stadium sounded like a freaking playlist for some of the teens I know.

Nobody wants to take a chance and move some damn cheese. Everybody wants the COMFORTABLE way.

Individual players respond to adversity based on their particular strengths, but the staff sets the tone. If you watched the UW sideline, you saw calm and determined coaches, led by head coach Gary Andersen. If you watched the Nebraska sideline, you saw head coach Bo Pelini berate just about anyone inside the 608 area code — coach or player — as his team's performance deteriorated. The difference was striking.

Nebraska is very far removed from the 90s... their ceiling is generally winning the Western Division (just as it was winning the North Division in the B12).
I don't think it's all doom and gloom yet though. They'll continue consistently fielding 9win teams. Bo isn't a very good HC, but I think it'd be a mistake to ditch him until they have a solid candidate lined up. Otherwise you end up with somebody like Hoke scratching the bottom of the barrel just to get bowl eligible.

Warren needs to go all T. Boone Pickens on Nebraska.

"
How does an 8-1 football team jump out to a 17-3 lead, then get outscored 49-0 in the next 30 minutes? How does a team’s coaching staff demonstrate no ability to stop momentum? Have you ever seen a program more emotionally fragile?"

Sounds a lot like '99 Wisconsin at OSU... Buckeyes were ranked #12 at that point, got out to a 17-0 lead in the first half... ended up losing 42-17. That freaking sucked.
