Nebraska Cornhuskers (corn)

Anyone think that the "Hail Mary" could actually have saved Bo's job?

The Huskers (6-2, 3-1 Big Ten) continue to control their own destiny in the Big Ten Legends Division. A victory over Sparty (in Lincoln) in 2 weeks (and with wins at Penn State and vs Iowa) will put Nebraska in the B1G CCG.

Only in the sense that it keeps the possibility of a Division Crown alive. Once a Buckeye always a Buckeye - so I pull for Bo's overall success. But he is not the coach to bring the Huskers back to prominence.

So, as I recover my voice from screaming at the TV screen yesterday....

Let me say that the Bo Pelini Farewell Tour that was going to kick off on Saturday didn't get started as planned.
I don't know if that game turned out the way it did because it was Northwestern being Northwestern, or us getting extremely fortunate, or both.

Either way - the Defense did step up in the 2nd half. They still can't stop the run. Avery Moss with the pick six. People have been wondering why certain guys haven't been playing at all, but they played over 1/2 way through the season on Saturday?!?

Tommy Armstrong is who we thought he was with three horrible interceptions, but runs the option well. Ron Kellogg III is the cousin of a close friend of mine, and he said a bunch of people called him (the cousin, not Kellogg) and said that they needed to talk some sense into RKIII for throwing that pass yesterday.

Abdoulah is a beast and a gamer. The Hail Mary wouldn't even have been setup had he not converted that 4th down with a hell of a play. If the team had more guys with that mentality, we'd be in a much different place.

A win is a win, but this one was uuuuugly.

Disagree. A Hail Mary answered is a beautiful way to win a game. OSU's won over a hundred games this century, but I'll carry the plays like Holy Buckeye vs Purdue in 2002 and Braxton's lob against Wisconsin in 2011 to my grave. The rest are great, but they're typically reduced to just noise in my memory over time.

I can remember Holy Buckeye like it happened last night.

Okay, slow down there my friend. With all due respect, Holy Buckeye happened to keep you guys UNDEFEATED. It helped you win a Natty.
This one happened, and yes, it was unforgettable. But it wasn't for an undefeated season, or a Natty.

It was to keep the head coach gainfully employed.

I would be OK with that. Many very successful OCs and DCs have failed to succeed as HCs.
so you want to replace a great recruiter and weak play caller with a coach that recruits poorly and somehow managed to only field defense in the high flying b12 but not the Dreadful big ten?

LSU was not sad to see him go. Weak recruiter there too. That wouldn't fly in a million years under urban.

...with Bill Callahan's players.

I feel like I'm beating a dead horse on this one, but he has never been the architect of any of the great defenses he received credit for as a DC.

The question was IF Fickell and Withers left.
