Nebraska Cornhuskers (corn)

I'd rather die after crawling across tons of broken glass naked than follow any K-State anything.

Saying that is like me saying that you guys need to hire Lloyd Carr in some way, shape or form.

Yeah but you'd love to make a BCS bowl again, wouldn't you?

Besides, it would be whatever Nebraska wants to do, I was just using those two as an example. I could have used Boysee State after all

No doubt. But, does Nebraska have the clout to draw a name like that to Lincoln? I don't think so. Like you said above, Bohl is probably their best move right now. Get a guy that is from there, knows the culture, and let him do his thing.

Clout won't draw a big name coach, but money will. When Nebraska decides to throw around $10mil for a top coach and top assistants, that's when they'll get the product they want. Nebraska has the tradition, the facilities, the (fucking) fans, the TV draw, and the NFL pedigree to be great the moment they stop dicking around with Bo.

I am with NFBuck - Craig Bohl might be their program's Jim Tressel out of Youngstown St. He'll 'get it' immediately. with any luck (for them), it won't end the same way but we won't go down that path here.

This. Money talks in this day and age, and BS walks.

Although, Bo Pelini isn't exactly a middle of the road paid coach. He's in the top 15 in salaries right now.

Actually they were required to only have 88 scholarship players in 1993, not 120.

The point is, they were due for a downward trend.
So, they were already working with essentially "reduced" scholarships by 1993, which is precisely when they started that epic 60-3 five-year run, and they continued to dominate college football (save for 1998) for nearly a decade after that. My point is that scholarship reductions had absolutely zero effect on their success.

It's not just the head coach, it's the assistants too. In January, Nebraska gave their staff a bump putting them at $5.5m this year across the entire staff. In May, OSU gave their staff a bump ... to $7.6m this year.

If you want to sit at the big boy table and play with the whales, you need to ante up. Nebraska is only now catching up to Iowa and Michigan St in terms of where assistant coaching salaries were before the 2012 season.

Your statement conveniently ignores how those players would then go to other programs that were not Nebraska, creating a trickle down effect for these programs and build them up to the point where they could start beating Nebraska.

The landscape changed in 1994. It just so happened that 1994 was when Nebraska was at their pinnacle. Saying otherwise is ignoring history at this point.

So, here is the official 2nd response from the school:

Statement from Chancellor Perlman, Director of Athletics Eichorst
Lincoln, Neb., Sept. 18, 2013 – University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor Harvey Perlman and Director of Athletics Shawn Eichorst issued the following joint statement today:

“The comments made by Head Football Coach Bo Pelini in 2011, published Monday, are unfortunate and deeply concerning to us, as they would be to anyone who loves this university. Our coaches, staff and student-athletes must be held to a high standard and Coach Pelini's remarks were unfair to the legions of Nebraska fans and not what we expect from a representative of this university. Former Director of Athletics Tom Osborne became aware of these comments and the existence of a recording more than a year ago, and addressed the matter with Coach Pelini. We have observed, and many others have commented, that Coach Pelini’s demeanor has significantly improved since the time of this incident. Coach Pelini has given us his assurance that he understands the seriousness and inappropriateness of his comments. We believe he is sincere in his apology and in his regret. We are prepared to put the matter to rest. Our football student-athletes, coaches and staff deserve all of our support and we know the Nebraska faithful will be there for them.”

I'm sure they probably said something about him blowing Frazier off, however.

Here's his interview from this morning with Bill King:

In much the same fashion, OSU used to stockpile talent in the region to beat Michigan, but now that OSU can't do that, the excess fringe talent is now going to MAC schools, where they beat Michigan.
