Nebraska Cornhuskers (corn)

Paul Finebaum reacts to Scott Frost firing, pitches Urban Meyer for Nebraska job

“I do, Cole, because I know they were to save money by waiting but, frankly, I thought that was a good sign by the school saying ‘everything is not about money,’ even though it is,” Finebaum said. “And I also think they did not want to go into a big weekend which this is out there with Oklahoma coming in and having this be the only conversation. At some point, you just have to change the narrative and I don’t know what the separation agreement was but I’m sure they figured something out to get him out of there because he had to go, that’s not debatable. When you lose the kind of games he has lost, you should be fired. He shouldn’t have been brought back, but how many times have we seen that movie before?”

And then the conversation turned to Urban Meyer.

“There’s only really one elite coach out there right now I think that’s capable of changing a program and I’ll try not to completely throw up my breakfast as I utter the two words ‘Urban Meyer," Finebaum said. “And I’m not even sure he can do it, and since he will be in Lincoln this weekend, maybe we’ll get him to comment on it, but I just don’t think you can go and say ‘let’s go grab Matt Campbell or Matt Rhule or Matt whomever,’ and turn this around. It’s already been tried and it’s failed so you have to somebody that has won at the highest level and quite frankly there really aren’t that many people that fit that. This is not going and getting Josh Heupel, who has really been untested but capable of great things. You need a program changer, not just a good coach, you need a superb coach and there are so few of them out there.”

Not even Urban could transform Corn into a National Championship contender. There's only one way Corn can return to the glory days of the 70s and be a perennial national power. Some very wealthy fat cat sets up a billion dollar Corn NIL fund (so they can get the best players money can buy) and Corn hires a guy that can actually coach.

Does Meyer’s agent even bother telling him that Alberts reached out if that’s the case? I could see Meyer wanting to leave coaching on a better note than whatever the fuck Jacksonville was but at the same time I don’t know.

I will say Alberts seems like a boss. I still think it’s hilarious we have general fans saying “Nebraska should at least be able to win 8-9 games” when Pelini was doing just that. Hubris can bring forth some rude awakenings. 16-31 man - that’s just brutal.

Watching this unfold, you appreciate the fact you had a parent from Cleveland instead of… Omaha — and exposed you to the SG at such a young age. Things could be so different beyond our control and instead we’ve had two decades of being pretty fucking awesome. I’m not saying I feel bad for them per se, but the success we witness specifically is insane when you think about it.

this dude is awesome on an unrelated note:
