Report: Iowa State’s Matt Campbell ‘strong candidate’ for Nebraska job
Bill Moos isn’t wasting any time at all.
Saturday morning, Nebraska confirmed that Mike Riley had been dismissed after three seasons as the head football coach of the Cornhuskers. Almost immediately, attention turned to Scott Frost, the former NU quarterback who has UCF unbeaten in his second season with the Knights. In fact, at his press conference, Moos confirmed that he has spoken to people connected to Frost.
Bret Bielema, fired this past week by Arkansas, has also been mentioned as a possibility.
However,
FootballScoop.com is reporting that Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell “is a strong candidate for the same job at Nebraska.” One potential sticking point involves some rather significant money. From the website’s report:
Campbell has one of, if not the highest publicly available buyout on record at $9.4 million, which FootballScoop detailed last month. Should Moos meet with Campbell and decide he is the right man for the job it is believed Moos will find a way to get the buyout handled.
