Nebraska Cornhuskers (corn)

Corn should back up the Brinks truck for Frost. Obviously, the fan base already loves him. But UCF went 0-12 two years ago and earned every bit of it. Frost comes in and wins 6 games, and now they're 10-0. He's doing something right.
He's the best they can hope for. Nobody else is coming to try to resurrect a has-been program in the Great Plains.

UCF coach Scott Frost disputes report he is close to Nebraska deal

UCF football coach Scott Frost on Saturday shot down a report that he was nearing a seven-year, $35 million deal with his alma mater, Nebraska.

"That's just totally false," Frost said following No. 15 UCF's 45-19 win over Temple. "I haven't paid any attention to all of these whirlwind rumors and everything, and I'm not going to. I got an unbelievable team I'm coaching and I can promise you that no decision has been made."

However, he didn't deny that he is in the process of discussing and/or negotiating a contract.

Nebraska coach Mike Riley: 'I truly believe I'm exactly the right person to do this'

Nebraska coach Mike Riley lobbied for his return to coach the Cornhuskers next season after suffering a 56-14 loss to Iowa on Friday that capped the worst year of football at the school since 1961.

"When I go to bed tonight, I'll be hoping for that, because I would love to do this," Riley said. "I truly believe I'm exactly the right person to do this. The football parts, I've been doing it so long, we know how to fix, and we also are doing a good job recruiting."

Nebraska is widely expected to cut ties with Riley, who is 19-19 in three seasons. His team finished 4-8 this year, closing the season with four consecutive losses -- allowing more than 50 points in each of the final three.

Report: Iowa State’s Matt Campbell ‘strong candidate’ for Nebraska job

Bill Moos isn’t wasting any time at all.

Saturday morning, Nebraska confirmed that Mike Riley had been dismissed after three seasons as the head football coach of the Cornhuskers. Almost immediately, attention turned to Scott Frost, the former NU quarterback who has UCF unbeaten in his second season with the Knights. In fact, at his press conference, Moos confirmed that he has spoken to people connected to Frost.

Bret Bielema, fired this past week by Arkansas, has also been mentioned as a possibility.

However, FootballScoop.com is reporting that Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell “is a strong candidate for the same job at Nebraska.” One potential sticking point involves some rather significant money. From the website’s report:

Campbell has one of, if not the highest publicly available buyout on record at $9.4 million, which FootballScoop detailed last month. Should Moos meet with Campbell and decide he is the right man for the job it is believed Moos will find a way to get the buyout handled.

People around here will shit collective bricks if it's Campbell.

Seems like a solid hire to me

Why is that?

Because they have staked all their future on Frost or bust. And, for being some of the "most knowledgeable fans in college football," there's a bunch of people around here that would only see that he came from Iowa State.

I just want a guy who can recruit and bring toughness back to Lincoln on a consistent basis.
If that be Frost, Campbell, Bohl, or whomever...I just want a team that can smack a MOFO in the mouth week in and week out.
