NCAA09 PS3 Big Ten-Pac Ten Dynasty (Official Thread)

I don't know what the bowl schedule looks like, but hopefully we will be able to advance to Bowl week 1 by 6 PM EST Thursday. If there are no bowl teams in week 1, I will advance immediately to week 2. I think that week 2 will cover everyone that's left, and I will go to the offseason as soon as everyone is finished.

I will advance to the offseason, and if anyone wants to talk players into staying, then I will take the dynasty offline, make the pitches, and change the sliders back to default all-american, before sending invites back out.

Offseason recruiting:
Promises - I think that making any promises to any recruit is what is causing the glitch for freshman to want to transfer, regardless of whether the promise was made to them, or whether the promise was kept or not. In Piney's dynasty I made no promises to recruits, and after a few sims, I found that I never lost a single recruit from that class. I am still getting transfer requests from the same starters that tried to leave the previous season. My conclusion is that if you make promises to any player during the offseason, then you will have recruits from that class try to leave in the first year. If you talk them out of it once, you will have to talk them out of it for the rest of their careers. The solution seems to be. Don't make promises to any recruit during offseason recruiting. That will ultimately end cycle of kids leaving for no reason, and only leave the ones that put up monster years as thrid year players, or players that are buried on the depth chart.

I'll deal with any scheduling headaches once we get back online.

So are you trying to say that we can't promise the world to certain recruits to steal them from other guys???

Or that you are going to not take the dynasty offline in future years (cuz this year I think the only people that leave will be for the draft) cuz really the only people that leave are the people you promise stuff to, so screw them?

I'll be in Philly for the tournament Wed night-Saturday night.
Shouldn't be a problem, since we likely won't be through the bowl games by then. Even if we are, I don't think that you're losing anyone other than seniors.

Not exactly something that I could enforce...unless

No, I'm not saying that...yet, but I would prefer to not take the dynasty offline, just to get some kind of continuity back to this thing. You are right though. The only defections that I've seen are from draft eligible guys. Oregon State and Wisconsin were the two that were losing key guys, IIRC, but I don't remember anyone else...just that I wasn't losing anyone. However, you're not just losing guys that you make promise things to. You're losing guys from the class that you promised things to. I never made a single promise to the starting safety, guard, or tackle that want to leave UK every year, but I did made promises to others in their class...and those promises were kept. I think that it has more to do with making promises, than to whom the promises are made.

Also, talking these guys into staying for three years will always leave you at a disadvantage for week 1 of offseason recruiting. Having three years worth of guys will cripple you for week 1 of offseason recruiting.

So, yes. My suggestion is to not make promises to recruits. The drawbacks far outweigh the advantages.

As for the visits in week 15. I think that week 15 and championship week occur on the same date, and teams with conference championships can't schedule games in week 15.

I may be wrong, but I don't think that's the case. I know I can recruit during Week 15 but I can't during the Conference Championship week. IIRC, it goes Week 15, Championship Week, then Bowl season.

I think that that's just the way the broke up the two types of weeks. Championship week = week 15. This year's real CFB schedule had the USC-UCLA and Arizona-Arizona State games the same day as the ACC, SEC, Big 12, and Conference USA Championship games...12/06. Week 14 was 11/29, week 15 was 12/06, Championship is 12/06

Everyone can recruit in week 15, but with the jacked up way that they split week 15 up, no one can have visits...it wouldn't be fair to the championship conference schools that aren't allowed to have that extra week of visits.

Well, they get what they deserve for doing the money grab of conference championships

See, I have no problem not being able to talk guys into not declaring for the draft. It's the Tressel way to do things  So don't worry about taking it offline this year (well, unless I lose my 2 Junior CBs and my one Junior WR with 96 speed. Then we have to go offline :wink2:)

And really, if everyone understands that promising players may incur the wrath of transfers and you won't go offline to let people keep them. Then that is cool as it is part of the groundrules so people can decide to take a chance at promising a 'must get' recruit and risk him leaving after one year. Versus risk landing the recruit in the first place by not promising him that he is your #1 guy

At least you know the consequences ahead of time (which we didn't know before and the reason we went offline in the other dynasties) And don't fear people in my dynasty. We will keep going offline cuz it is difficult enough to recruit at places like ECU, Army, TCU & SMU. At those places, we kinda have to promise the world to recruits to get them to even think about coming to us.

It's not really a linear equation. If you make a promise to the 4 or 5* stud and you think that you're willing to take the chance on losing him, then that's one thing. The problem really starts when you make a promise to one of the 3* remnants of your recruiting class, because it fills a position of need, and the 5* stud that you signed earlier in the year leaves because a promise was made. One promise could cost you multiple players. That's what happened to me with CMU. I had a 4* FS and a 4* G sign before the offseason. Both started, but since promises were made to other players, both of those fucks and two other starters wanted to go elsewhere.

Anyway. My experiment has a sample size of one recruiting class, and that's not nearly enough for me to make a hard and fast rule about it being tough shit if you made promises and now kids are leaving. I just wanted to throw the warning out there, that this might be the cause of the transfer problem.

So now everyone's been warned. :tongue2:

In Piney's dynasty, the only reason I got my best players were through promises. I need to convince them to stay. I'd like to be able to convince others in this dynasty to stay.
I've already said that I would take it offline if anyone wanted to talk their players into staying, and I won't change that for this season. If everyone has players leaving, and want to talk them into staying, then I will continue to take it offline. My assessment isn't necessarily what is causing the issue, just what I noticed after one season of experimenting.

I bet my 94 speed HB is leaving, even though he has basically missed 3 games due to injury hes still top 10 in rushing yards

I wont mind though if I land the 4.22 HB im leading for and the 4 star HB im also leading for

when are we advancing?

No week 1 bowl games. We are in week 2 of the bowl season.

Week 2 bowl games are:
Michigan State vs. Va Tech in the Champs Sports Bowl
Arizona vs. TCU in the Las Vegas Bowl
Arizona State vs Texas Tech in the Holiday Bowl
Oregon St vs Boston College in the Emerald Bowl

Week 3 Bowl Games are:
Oregon vs. Rutgers in the Sun Bowl
Illinois vs. Mississippi State in the Outback Bowl
Purdue vs. South Carolina in the Capital One Bowl
Wisconsin vs. UCLA in the Rose Bowl/Dynasty Championship Game

Oklahoma lost in the Big 12 Championship game, and Ohio State is playing Texas in the NCG.

If Ohio State wins, and Purdue, Illinois, and Wisconsin win their bowl games we could have 4 Big Ten teams in the top 5.
