NCAA punishes USC - Reggie Bush, OJ Mayo, Dwayne Jarrett, Joe McKnight investigation

It saddens me that all those wins are "vacated," so it essentially erases them from the record books, rather than reversing the final outcome. Would be so much sweeter if those productive years were rewritten as winless seasons  I just find it humerous that they can't grow the balls and take the title away for that year. If those wins are vacated, how would they have been eligible to play in the NC game? Strip the Heisman for icing on the cake, give it to the #2 guy or just call it vacated for that year.

Careful what you wish for. You'd have Heavy C. back. :wink2:

What's more ridiculous--that Carroll has explicitly said that the NCAA has an agenda and both he and Garrett have said that USC has done nothing worthy of the sanctions, or that idiot USC fans actually believe it? I guess when an impartial organization basically says you cheated and sanctions you, there's no other response you can take other than to attack that organization and irrationally accuse them of bias. Well, there is the mature response of admitting that your school's representatives made some mistakes and that things need to be cleaned up inside your school's program. But a mature response seems to be beyond the USC fans, USC's athletic director, and the former coach.

Exactly what is this "Clarett precedent" that soccermom is referring to in the linked thread? Clarett was suspended by Geiger when it became apparent that Clarett lied about property stolen from his car at the WHAC. He never played another down for OSU because he refused to cooperate with OSU and the NCAA in their investigations of various allegations of wrongdoing. There was never a major infractions report related to anything Clarett. The NCAA turned over every rock it could get its hands on as it pertained to Tressel and his relationship with Clarett, car dealers, etc. The NCAA went so far as to investigate so called leads about shenanigans with Tressel at YSU. I am having trouble understanding how the Clarett matter serves as a precedent.

It--along with Ohio State's handling of the Jim O'Brien matter--are a great precedent in how a school should handle these matters when they learn of them. Had USC followed this precedent, they possible wouldn't have just received a de-facto death penalty.
