NCAA punishes USC - Reggie Bush, OJ Mayo, Dwayne Jarrett, Joe McKnight investigation

NextBuck;1520217; said:
This is what will happen to USC:

-Bush's records (personal) will get removed from the record book
-Bush will keep his Heisman (not up to NCAA)
-USC will get "Failure to Monitor" slap on the wrist.

Wrong! Nothing will happen to that football program. Basketball program will take the hit, Petey will still be god, get over it.

When I saw this thread bumped, I thought it would be for somebody saying that Reggie being back with Kim Kardashian was punishment enough for him.

Some of us are petty. We want him to suffer even more than that. And we want his friends who benefited to suffer too.

I really hope someone not named USC wins the P10...not because I don't want a shot a rematch..I think we are the better team and would win...instead because I don't think USC should share in the benefits and spotlights the BCS affords the participating teams. Until the ledger is squared I don't want to see them in big time games.

I wanted to ask Pete C. what he thought about that..but the hallways that converge at his office are filled with a preponderance of evidence that makes it unsafe to walk the halls. Rental agreements, plane tickets, transcribed depositions and interviews, cancelled checks showing one parent paid rent for another player... it just isn't safe to walk through those mountains of paper and evidence. The beginning of the USC revival is so tainted it is appalling.

Yeah, I'm bitter.

The NCAA and the media drug my alma matter through the mud for hollow accusations that found ONE $500 dollar handshake....and punished us enough that it likely cost us a NC. They investigated our football program so intently that they also found a small infraction for women's basketball that the girls who received the benefit didn't even know they had received anything. (Brace-gate....remember?).

The NCAA is ALL OVER Memphis...yeah it was a bad infraction..and they closed the book on it in a hurry...yet it doesn't remotely suggest the lack of institutional control occurring in USC basketball and football.

The NCAA is deepening their investigation of UM's practice issues...yeah there is some schadenfreude associated with seeing UM dangle on the NCAA string..but really...at the end of the day.....there are bigger fish for the NCAA to catch. And it isn't like UM has shown any benefit gained from those extra hours. Our guys put in the same amount of work..the coaches just didn't 'schedule' it, nor did they over see it....but all the DI guys were punching a similar clock...
noidea.gif

They crushed the Okie State receiver who lied about contacting Deon...but didn't violate the NCAA rules when he met with Prime Time.

The NCAA is a laughing stock - taking on teams the media isn't in love with in quick fashion while letting the worst offender play on without regard for the NCAA rulebook..enjoying the spoils of their rule breaking at every turn.

So I am all about USC not making yet another BCS run and enjoying yet another tainted pay day.

The NCAA should be ashamed....

Ohio State should build fabulous condos for the players...golf course...big pool....luxury at every turn and let our boosters pay for it if the players can't afford it (Jarrett). We should also build a gated community of luxury homes in Columbus for the player's parents to use at minimal or no charge while their son is a Buckeye (Bush). We should also have a plane available to take all the parents to the road games for free (Bush). And if there is a player we really want we should have ex players call him to recruit him (McKnight) or just have the coaches write them a check (Mayo).

As is we are on par with USC..imagine how good we would be if we played by the same (lack of) rules as USC? We would be unstoppable.

Hell, we would be an NFL team.

So we have heard the investigation is proceeding and the NCAA is about to drop the hammer...and it will be a hammer like blow...any time now......just you wait and see...justice will be served.....oh, they are coming for USC.....and now YEARS later....the chorus has been so oft repeated it isn't even interesting anymore. No one cares or speaks of what USC did..meanwhile, OSU was headline news for 2 years because Troy got $500.

The NCAA is absolutely pathetic. No power, no will, no balls and no authority if the offense is bad enough....and it is beginning to ruin the game I absolutely love above all others.

SO USC rolls on...tarnished while UM alum freak out about the ramifications coming for extra practice time and Dez Bryant watches the games from a couch somewhere because he was hangin' with Deon.

Yeah, I understand your sentiment though. The thing that sticks in my craw here is that there seems to be pretty overwhelming evidence that Bush/Jarrett/Mayo recieved improper benefits, and nothing has been done.

Agreed all received improper benefits. But hasn't the problem all along been that there's never been a strong trail leading to the staff for Bush/Jarrett. Mayo...well that trail was clear, but the others...not clear.

Meanwhile, in our awful saga, MoC actually pointed the finger at us, which is a major difference. No one at USC ever pointed the finger at the football staff to my knowledge.

The finger is pointed at the USC adminstation....lack of institutional control...which is the BIG finger...the one in the middle.

The reality remains...the reaction and fall out at OSU is light years different than what is happening at USC..which has shown a series of events and benefits that have resulted in no word from the NCAA and a free pass from the media..which points toward my central sentiment: I don't want to see USC win anything that provides for more money or positive exposure until the sins of their past are addressed. As much as I would enjoy beating them in the Rose Bowl (assuming we take care of bussiness tomorrow)...I'd rather they not get to enjoy the benefits of getting a BCS bid.

At the end of the day...they are getting a free pass for events far larger than what we have seen other programs taken to task for..both publically by the media and via regulatory response from the NCAA. It is BS...if Mo C pointing at our staff makes our circimstances 'different' so be it...but the fact remains the NCAA needed to close the book..one way or the other...on USC a long time ago. The fact that it remains unresolved has turned it into a cold case with no closure or justice for any party involved..and that includes any program that had to deal with the NCAA for far less than the literally hundreds of thousands of dollars of benefits in quesiton at USC. If the NCAA doesn't intend to touch USC..then close the investigation and say there was no evidence of wrong doing...or acknowledge the receipts, records, and statements that prove Bush and Jarrett..at a minimum had illegal benefits......and then talk about the Mayo saga and wrap that up too.....

end it.

The longer it goes without a response the worse the NCAA looks and the less any punishment to USC will impact those in the administration who should have been monitoring and controlling those events. I'm not after Pete here.....it is USC administration that is culpable IMO. Mo C pointing at our staff isn't relevant as I'm not looking for the staff to be punished in Troy....it is the AD..this is institutional control...not Pete.

Former USC basketball coach Tim Floyd says NCAA advised him to get an attorney -- latimes.com

Excerpts from the LATimes article today. USC ex-basketball coach Tim Floyd is quoted with details about the investigation at USC.

Floyd said that Humphrey told him the NCAA investigations involving Trojans football player Reggie Bush and basketball player O.J. Mayo were moving into the area of USC's possible lack of institutional control.

When Floyd told Humphrey he hadn't done anything wrong and that he didn't need an attorney, Floyd said Humphrey told him, "You need to think about the Ohio State situation."

Floyd said when he asked what that meant, Humphrey told Floyd to think about how when there were questions about Ohio State football player Maurice Clarrett, it was the Ohio State basketball program under Jim O'Brien that eventually suffered severe NCAA sanctions with O'Brien getting fired. . .
Floyd said that his understanding is that USC has still not "self-reported" any NCAA violations. The NCAA investigations into Bush and Mayo are still ongoing.

So does this mean the USC hoops are going to get punished for the football violations or vice versa?

i think it means that usc should try to equate "mr. such and such" who gave clarett a few $100 handshakes to a known agent who gave reggie bush $250k and a free condo for his family.

you can see the obvious correlation.
