NCAA Football Improvements?

I think adding the option of upgrading or building your own stadium would be a great addition. EA put this option in MVP '06 and it is really cool. I can imagine my three deck, 125,000 seat stadium right now.

I also think they should completely scrap RFTH mode because it sucks. If they scrap RFTH it would allow for extensive improvements to be made to the game.

In addition there should be more equipment options. There should add additional visor colors. For example USC has red visors, Virginia Tech has orange visors, and Miami has those multi-color, reflectable visors. More helmet options would also be nice.

Lastly, I think Ohio State needs to have black socks for the home and away jerseys. I know that this may seem kind of picky, but it would make the game much more enjoyable.

With the next generation consoles, they would have much more room for improvements, while keeping other features in the game.

I like RFTH. I don't think it should be scrapped, but it needs improvement.

Again with the NGC's(Next Generaton Consoles), especially with PS3 having Blue-Ray disc technology, this will allow more room on the disc for even more features. So saying that they should get rid of it to allow more room for other things, is kinda of a moot point.

Still, I don't think EA is going to go "all out" on this years game. They can only go so far on the new technology, before they have to upgrade, once again. Thats why one year they will only add a few new things, so they have things for the next years games and so on.

If they put everything imaginable in the game this year, what will they do the next year. They would have already exausted all of their ideas. And do you think people are going to buy NCAA 08, if it has the same exact things as NCAA 07?

I know I wouldn't.

Lots of good stuff mentioned already. Commentary of course. (they didn't have time to have the crew in last year to do new voice over's fyi) Wide open wide receivers with mid 90's hands dropping too many passes. Hit stick needs tons of work or go back to the white button on xbox because the hit stick sucks ass on this years game. Create a school needs some work.
One huge thing for me is having the number one toughest place to play and no team ever gets a delay of game. If your gonna hype the stadium pulse and how loud the fans can get, you need to have SOME delay of games. I just hope if they do this they don't get carried away with it.

Defensive pass interference on the computer needs work. If you play with fatigue on it should make the computer players get fatigued as well.

Just a few of my upgrades.

Also more on what hoat said with the crowd and toughest places to play.

Right now, on shotgun and punt snaps, some of them go a little high or to one side.

Make it so if the crowd is really loud that at times a snap might go over a holder's head on a field goal. Or over the QB or Punter's head on shotgun and punt formations.

Also make blocking field goals, actually possible. I have never seen a field goal blocked in Madden or NCAA.

Agree with all of this. If they are going to put the long snapper as a position, then it should be possible for a bad snapper to have it go over their heads. I haven't seen a blocked FG on NCAA, finally seen a blocked punt. Against my team of course. :)

I agree with the big hit feature needing changes. It feels so random as to when the player tries to make the hit.

Punt returns are a little too easy this year. I don't care how good my returner is, he shouldn't be returning multiple punts for touchdowns per game on a regular basis.

Don't know if it's just me, but sweeps very rarely work. Maybe some better outside blocking? I have much better luck bouncing an inside run to the outside than running a play designed to go there.

Also - very picky, but does the NCAA really care if my player misses a voluntary practice?

note: these comments are when playing on heisman... as all-american is too easy (ie PR's and almost everything else).

the entire special teams product sucks. This is where an impact player should dominate with his special ability, not when Ted Ginn runs right into Lamar Woodley and knocks him over. Yet sadly, unless you trick the game into blocking and creating a huge hole, your 99 speed player is caught by 85 speed players with regularity.

blocks are not a possibility. Increase the chances of this happening, but also cause it to nullify any chances of a return. Sometimes a puntblock formation is the best chance to spring your returner.

Allow the squib kick to be more random (maintain the random high bounce at times, but also allow it to bounce in a more controlled manner like happens in real games). Currently it either gives them the ball at the 10 (b/c it took forever to field) or out of bounds at the 35. If it were more realistic it would bumble to the returner much faster than a kickoff (not going vertical), but the blockers would occasionally miss assignments while letting the ball bounce thru.

I agree with the gameplay portion needing improvement. Especially in the defensive secondary and pursuit angles and of course a guy with 85 speed catching someone that has 99 speed.

Now for the fun stuff I want to see. The individual team entrances would be great for traditional schools. Showing the pregame rituals involving any marching bands is always cool.

Also I want to see improvements in your program and coaching staff. From what I heard of NCAA Baseball '06 they did this (I still have to get that game). Being able to build better facilities for rewards, ie your defense holds your opponent under 100 yards for 3 games in a row you get a new weight room that helps strengthen all your players in the offseason. Or for smaller schools to be able to upgrade their 25,000 seat stadium after so many sell-outs and wins.

This layer should be available in the jumps to the next generation consoles with more room to add these small things that make a big difference in the overall feel of the game.

This was posted over on MaddenMania, but another poster. I would link to it, but you have to register to see it. This is just a few of the 7 pages of ideas they have over there.

1) School specific Hall of Fame for dynasty players. Each school could have a "hallway" that resembles their university complete with old memorabilia. You can walk through this hallway and look at past players from your dynasty that you've put into your HOF. You could save replays from games, write articles, save Sports Illustrated covers, take in-game snapshots, view stats/records, etc. to be included in your players spot in the HOF. Perhaps even their jersey, helmet, football, etc. is shown in the case with their name that you then highlight to select their player history at your school.

1.5) Another difficulty level. At times, all-american can be too easy and heisman too difficult. Please add another difficulty level between all-american and heisman.

1.6) Training camp. I really like the "proceed to training and results" element of the current version. I wouldn't change this, but perhaps add an option for training camp. Users can either proceed to training and the results or manually take their players through training camp and allot points to attributes as they see fit as in Madden.

2) In-game save replay. With the addition to save the replay to a specific players possible HOF "trophy case."

2.5) White stat numbers. Please, the blue font is impossible to read.

3) Longer Heisman presentation. As soon as you see the player, he's gone and it barely gives you enough time to read his name. Nextgen systems should have the capability and enough memory to show some replays from the HOF players or at the very least just throw in some generic replays based on the position. A RB breaking a big run (obviously with your teams colors) or a QB throwing a TD pass.

3.5) In-depth pre-game/halftime/post-game analysis with presentation. If ESPN can do it, so can EA.

3.6) More pre-game, in-game, and post-game commentary.

3.7) Improved pre-game player highlights. Please fix the commentary that says to watch out for my QB who just happens to be 4/38 with 12 INTs and 1 TD. Or my HB who only has 176 yards but somehow is still a threat on the field.

4) TE motion. The TE should not sidestep at lightning speed when you motion him from one side to the other. He should pull, turn, and run.

4.1) QB stats. No explanation needed.

4.2) Offensive line awards. I don't like seeing my entire offensive line become AA. One or two of my team's linemen is fine, but not all of them.

4.5) Medical redshirt.

4.6) Injury elaboration. When a player is injured, we know within a few minutes of game time exactly how many plays/weeks he will be out. I don't think it's realistic to know that fast. Perhaps having to wait one week would be more realistic. And if he's injured for five weeks, I'd like to see an injury progression bar that tells me how close he is to being 100%. With the option of letting him play whenever I want (i.e. 85% or 90%). But if he gets hit hard and is injured again then there is the possibility of suffering a more serious injury and being out for longer than the original time (i.e. ten weeks instead of five).

5) RBs sticking to players. It's the same in NCAA as it is in Madden. You try to run but get "stuck" against the OL/DL. And even juking left or right just can't get you unstuck. Some type of fix for this... not sure what it could be... possibly the RB changing his body position to squeeze through or a push off with his hand to bump himself outside then run?

5.5) Improved CPU hurry-up. When the CPU goes into hurry-up mode it will run the same play for all three downs. The CPU should be audibling to a pass play instead of trying to run three times up the middle when down by a score or more.

6) Responsive hit stick. NCAA's hitstick is slower than Madden. This is good, because you can't hit stick every play and you don't see that in real life. What is frustrating is that when I want to hit stick the QB with a LB or DL that has broken through, I can't because the hit stick doesn't respond until 3 seconds later. Need to find a happy medium where you can't hit stick every play of every down without getting burned but at the same time you should be able to accurately hit stick when appropriate.

7) More defensive controls. As in Madden, I'd like to be able to hit Y then double team a WR or individually bump certain receivers like in Madden. As well as the playmaker where you highlight your defensive player and you're able to make him spy, drop back, blitz, or cover the flat.

7.5) Adaptive AI. As in Madden.

7.6) Progressive fatigue. As in Madden.

7.7) Accelerated playclock option. To greater enhance player fatigue but not the length that it takes someone to finish a game. Option to turn it on and off.

8) More weather effects on player performance. If it's hot then I'd like to see quicker fatigue. If it's raining then I'd like to see more fumbles and players slipping when trying to juke or tackle. If it's cold then I'd like to see a drop in strength. These could all be team location, player home town, or year specific. For instance, if you've got a cold climate team/player traveling/playing to/in Florida, California, or Arizona then the cold climate team/player could be at a slight disadvantage, such as quicker fatigue because the heat is taking it's toll on them. I'd just really like to see weather become more of a factor.

9) Gang tackles. Good two player tackle animation but how about some variation? Add in some more two player tackle animations. One player going high, one player going low, etc. And the game needs a three player tackle animation. When three players go in for the tackle, the third player is always left out and just bounces off or does nothing. Have him pile on or slam into the group... please... something for three or more tackle animations.

9.1) More animations. Animations are the highlight of this game. Please add more to every aspect.

9.5) Goal line dive over the top animation.

10) Sideline action. If I break a run down the sidelines and I'm heading for the TD, my fellow teammates are standing along the sidelines as if nothing is happening. How about some type of action... running down the sidelines with me... jumping up and down... something.

11) Stadium details. If your team wins a conference then how about seeing that somewhere in the stadium? Maybe a flag or pennant hanging somewhere that has the year and conference won or something. Also, I've noticed that with my home stadium, I've begun to exceed the real life capacity by one or two thousand. When you reach that point, how about an option to construct in your stadium? Maybe I want to add another level or something. More stadium customization as in Madden.

11.5) Stadium upgrades. I like creating a cupcake team with a very basic 20,000 capacity stadium. I would like to be able to upgrade the stadium as the program gains popularity, funding, support, etc. As it is now, I would have to re-create the team with a new stadium each time I wanted to "upgrade."

11.6) School records tracking for created teams. I would like to be able to select my created team as my favorite team so that the school records will automatically be tracked and updated. As it is now, I can only select original teams.

12) Player body editor. As it is now, I can't make my linemen look correct. The game needs a body editor similar to Madden. I'd like to be able to modify the muscle/fat of every body part... calves, thighs, butt, stomach, chest, shoulders, back, neck, head... everything. Right down to the size of his pinky toe.

13) Team specific introductions. As they enter the stadium/field. No explanation needed.

13.1) Pride sticker option. In dynasty mode, an option to introduce pride stickers to your specific user controlled team (for those schools that don't have them already).

14) Bigger rosters.

14.1) More random names. It seems everyone has a brother that plays college football in this version. There are times when three or four players all have the last name.

good stuff teddy, that's a good forum.
2) In-game save replay. With the addition to save the replay to a specific players possible HOF "trophy case."
I've been longing for this for years, and if the PS2 did not exist, I bet we would have it. Screw you japanese console owners and your lack of a standard HD :p

Heres another poster over there...

1. True Coach Mode

2. Spring Practice, Spring game?

3. Have more piles, especially around the goal line, have the running back have to jump over a pile for a touchdown.

4. Yeah have the entrance real, like Ralphie, the Ohio State band guy etc.

5. Don't let the WR's completely dominate the DB's on every long ball.

6. College Gameday? College Gamenight? On location at the game of the week?

7. If the game is game of the week, you can have Nessler, Herbstreit and Corso do it. National broadcast get some other guys.. (I know that will be hard but just an idea,) get like Musenburger and Danielson for national games and for regional games get two other guys.

Spring practice and Spring Game. That is what I REALLY want.

Also, atleast the guy mentioned the "Ohio State Band Guy".:tongue2:

a poster at maddenboard.com

NCAA Football is a solid game but it could use a bit of touch ups.

1. I would like to see agilty, acceleration and speed be factored into a players moves on the field. An incredibly quick guy should be just that. A player should have the abilty to do a combination of jukes depending on thier agility, speed, and acceleration ratings. Oh and where is the "cutback?"

2. The idea of of impact players was a great addtion to 06' but to build upon that, players should also have field presence. When a reciver just burnt a DB by 10 yards for an 80 yard tochdown reception you shold see the secondary adjusting to that last mishap. Players sould also be able to become impact players during the course of a game. As i read earlier, players should also have emotion where your team could "feed" from a single player's enthusiasm or dejection.( in other words, hard work should pay off)

3. The middle of the field should mean the THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD. Anyone would agree that it take takes a MAN go over the middle for a reception. LBs should be able to punish recievers that try to be brave.

4. IT'S COLLEGE FOOTBALL why does special teams not matter? ( If it's one thing Virginia Tech should be good at, it's special teams...)

5. Does it really matter to have a 6'5'' frame at WR with freakish leapping ability if there is no jump ball? Size should matter, I want to see the fade route.

6. The playbooks need major reconstruction. Teams should have more diversified playbooks both on offense and defense. Coaches shold also matter. A passionate and firery coach should have a passionate and firery team.

7. Fans should be more lively of course. The noise of the student section should cause your defense to play harder in crunch time and you should see players getting amped up.

8.What is the practice for in Race for the Hiesman mode should it not mean something.

9. A highlight reel would be lovely. And should mean something when the hiesman votes are counted.

I want to see more intense rivalries, better player moves and jukes, I want more emotion and passion to win rather than just team ratings the that wants it most should be hard to defeat. I want better hits and. Better playbooks and defensive matchups. Overall I want COLLEGE FOOTBALL

I mentioned this in another thread, about something else. Anyway, I had PSone (I may still have it, somewhere) and whichever year it was that both Michigan and Nebraska was on the cover. Must be the '98 or '99 game. It wasn't 2000, I know. Anyway, it was decent, for its time, but what I really liked about it was that you could make your own plays. Why did they take that feature out? Did they think it was too easy to make unstoppable plays? (It was.) I think that with the increased complexity of the game, it'll be harder for those "unstoppable" plays to work with the ludicrous ideas I had.
