impressions
I get NCAA every year and like a lot of people, I was very disappointed with how '12 turned out. There were a lot of things that EA needed to fix for this game to be worth it and I wasn't sure EA would invest the time to do it. So far, I'm impressed. I have had the game since Friday night(EA season ticket). I have only played a few quarters vs CPU to this point and have not tried any dynasty features yet. I wanted to see how the game play was first and foremost before doing anything else. I spent the bulk of my time on the custom playbook section yesterday and then trying those plays in practice mode. Today I played my first full game with the custom playbook. It was played on All American, 6 min qtrs, no slider adjustments on xbox 360.
Here is the intro to the game.

Thoughts:
Special Teams - All 6 of my kick-offs went to the back of the endzone. The only kickoff that was returnable was the CPU kickoff at beginning of 3rd qtr but it still reached endzone. Punt coverage was a lot better this year for the punting team as well as blockers getting back to actually block for the returner.
When I was on offense - The offense felt a lot like '12 when running the ball. The noticeable differences were the passing game and the wr animations. The QB has a better pump fake and can actually run play action now without being sacked every time. They allow you to bail on the fake in play action if you see the blitz coming which is huge IMO. They also incorporated different drop steps for the QB. There are different throwing angles the QB throws from and you are now being able to lob a pass over a lb in between a safety without it being picked off. The wrs will also read blitz and look to get open if the see it coming. The wrs also turn their heads and look for the ball. The routes near the side line are also very much improved and your no longer running out of bounds every time on these routes. They have changed the layout of the passing game icons with the bumpers and that cost me a couple sacks as I was pressing the wrong bumper to dump passes off. Overall though, the game play was much better and smoother then '12.
When I was on Defense - The CPU QB is much more "aware" this year. If he is a dual threat and feels the pressure he will get out of the pocket and run. As you can see in the video this happened often with Denard. I play with the FS on defense and I thought the overall control of the player felt smoother than '12. Change of direction was good and you didn't seem to over run plays like '12 did. The read and re-act defense is huge improvement from last year. Players are actually reacting much better to the ball vs standing and watching in last years game. This was very noticeable and can been seen in some of the plays above. Unfortunately not all the plays had replays of the play to show just how much better this was. The super lbs with 60in verticals, cbs that make plays without looking at the ball or running the same route as the wr are gone. For the most part, most of my issues have been taken care of in '13.
General - Really like the improved game play and hope EA doesn't figure out a way to screw it up with a bad tuner or patch update. There are obviously some small glitches that need fixed that I've seen posted(on operation sports) but for the most part I really like how the game plays. I just hope that the dynasty features work this year so that dynasty's are not broken after certain points in the game like last year. For those that were worried about improved game play from '12 to '13 though, id have to give EA credit for fixing those issues.
