NCAA Football 12 (PS3) Online Dynasty (Discussion)

Smooth Olaf

Checking out Channel 9, man.
With Piney and Iron no longer sure bets to run dynasties (come back, dammit!), I'm going to start an online dynasty for NCAA 12. It won't start until the first rosters are released. This is assuming we don't need to wait for a patch to fix a major screw up.

Dynasties have been revamped and offer a ton of customization. I've had a couple ideas of how to run it.

1) Leave conferences as is, only moving TCU to the Big East either right away or to start the second year. Players choose a 3* prestige or lower team and can move them into whatever conference they want (if they want), joining the conference as a new team.

2) Four 16-team "super-conferences." The player chooses 3* prestige or below team to join the conference of his choice. Players are spread evenly throughout the conferences, and bowl tie-ins would be adjusted.

I'm open to ideas, but I have to admit, I'm kind of partial to the 16-team super-conferences.

My personal preference (keep in mind I'm not totally sure I'm buying the game yet) is for general realism in the game.

I'm a fan of the B- or less team ratings and/or 3* max prestige.

With most conferences having 2 divisions now, if there's enough players it would be cool to put them in opposite divisions in each BCS conference.

The one thing that killed the bad teams dynasty (for me) is that only schools in the BCS conferences had a real shot at the title game. I also wasn't a fan of taking a school and moving to another state.

So if you have 8 players in the dynasty, 4 super conferences would work, or I'd just have 2 players (1 in each division) in the SEC, ACC, Pac 10, and Big 10. If you have more then add the Big 12 or Big East. I think that gives you more flexibility if people decide to leave/join the league mid season and not have it disrupt the balance as much.

Whatever happens, I'll take the team with the recruiting advantage in whatever state you pick :p.

Whatever we do, I am buying a virus that automatically attaches itself to any user that joins the league and then leaves. Upon leaving the dynasty, the PS3 grows legs ala The Simpsons telemarketing machine and walks to my house.

So ya saying I shouldn't join then?

Actually I am a sure bet NOT to run a dynasty. No way I have the time to do so :(

But... I will be trying to play. Will be interesting to see how much I can play though. A newborn can either help or not. Help in that I will be up at 1am with the baby passed out on me and I could play my game and such, or not cuz the wife will be yelling at me to do something for the newborn/toddler instead of playing.

But back to the choices at hand... I like both  It really depends on how many guys will be playing or not. (They still limit to 12 I guess)

Also, if you want to join, say so and leave your PSN (If I don't already know it.)

If you want to start looking at potential teams, here are the ratings. Available teams will be 3* Prestige or below AND Overall B+ or below. I may move the Overall down to B is the teams are too strong.
btw, there are no teams that are 3 stars or less that are better than a B+, so you can just say 3* or below. there are 17 B+ teams with 3*.

I'll probably be buying the game again this year, but don't know if I'll be able to be an active OD member. I'll probably be able to say yes or no by the time rosters and patches are at a level that will let you start a dynasty. So, pencil me in for now.

I might be interested in playing in an OD. I just would like to see if the game is any good this year. Out of the box last year, it was one of the best, most realistic football games I have ever played. Then they started messing with it and ruined it for me. I was so disappointed that for the first time since I was a teenager I didn't buy Madden.

Also forgot to mention that I'm also partial to the super conference idea. The only drawback would be having two users in one division of a super conference, and one user in the other division of a super conference, ultimately causing scheduling headaches for the commish.

If there's only eight people, then that would be easy to remedy, by having each user in their own division. I guess, if there's 12 people in the dynasty, conference choices could be kept to three super conferences , with two users in each division...getting a little ahead of myself...I'm sure Smooth can work the math out, once all of the variables (number of users) are known.

Conferences can't be renamed, but the divisions can. So the Pac 12 will be the Pac 12 even with 16 teams, but the Legends and Leaders can be renamed whatever. I was fumbling around and came up with these:

Big 10

Leaders
1. Illinois
2. Indiana
3. Ohio State
4. Penn State
5. Pitt
6. Purdue
7. West Virginia
8. Wisconsin

Legends
1. Iowa
2. Michigan
3. Michigan State
4. Minnesota
5. Nebraska
6. Northwestern
7. Notre Dame
8. Rutgers

SEC

East
1. Clemson
2. Florida
3. Florida State
4. Georgia
5. Kentucky
6. South Carolina
7. Tennessee
8. Vanderbilt

West
1. Alabama
2. Arkansas
3. Auburn
4. LSU
5. Miami
6. Mississippi State
7. North Carolina
8. Ole Miss

Pac 12

North
1. Boise State
2. BYU
3. Cal
4. Oregon
5. Oregon State
6. Stanford
7. Washington
8. Washington State

South
1. Arizona
2. Arizona State
3. Colorado
4. Kansas
5. Kansas State
6. Utah
7. UCLA
8. USC

Big XII (The divisions aren't that even.)

North
1. Central Florida
2. Cincinnati
3. Iowa State
4. Maryland
5. Missouri
6. NC State
7. Virginia
8. Virginia Tech

South
1. Baylor
2. Houston
3. Oklahoma
4. Oklahoma State
5. TCU
6. Texas
7. Texas A&M
8. Texas Tech

Rose Bowl - B1G/Pac 12
Sugar Bowl - SEC/Big XII

I'm not sure if I can give tie-ins to runner ups.

Big East (The leftovers)

1. Connecticut
2. East Carolina
3. Louisville
4. South Florida
5. Syracuse

If you'd like a team that's not in the Super Conference, I can easily switch them in. So I can replace Iowa State in the Big XII with Rice if you want.

So you can put Ohio in the Big 10 and kick Ohio St to the MAC to simulate the death penalty? :sneaky:

No. I would, but since you booted Vanderbilt out of the SEC instead of Alabama or Florida in your 2011 dynasty, I'll only boot the lowest rated teams that aren't really in that conference. From the Big Ten, I'll boot Rutgers for Ohio, but not Indiana. Call it the Piney Rule.
