NCAA and Endzone Celebrations

the other part of the quote about "act like you've been there before" is "and act like you plan to be there again."

the real trouble, as well illustrated by this thread, is there is a diversity of opinion about celebrations, what constitutes one, what should be allowed, etc.

if the NCAA is going to flag it then they owe the teams a clear explanation of what is and is not "excessive" celebration.

then we could debate the rule itself, not the arbitrary and sometimes capricious enforcement of it.

but no matter what is said and done, Holmes' dive cannot ever EVER be construed as excessive celebration. period.

The Chad Johnson/cheerleader thing was funny, and I hate the bengals. It was funny because it was original, and it didn't even happen on the field. It was on the freaking sidelines. The rest of the crap, even if it is original, has no place on the football field. Group celebration, fine, but the choreographed, individual crap, that takes place on the field, has to go, and it would. If the cameras would simply turn away. We all know that that's not going to happen.

I see a trend were officials with their calls are increasingly determining the outcome of games. The best official is one at that you do not notice at the end of the game. Some of the calls this year have been ridiculous: Holmes TD at Scum, Ginn kick return called back because of a legal block 25-30 yards behind the play (I forget who was the opponent) and more recently Texas Tech's phantom TD against Oklahoma (I don't know how the official called it a TD when he was blocked out of the play), etc.

Kickoff return against Indiana. Ruined a perfectly good go-crazy celebration I was having in the stands above that corner of the end zone.

This one was different:

Further buttressing the argument that there's little in football better than a lineman scoring on offense, Mercer freshman Thomas Marchman caught a touchdown pass on Saturday in a blowout win over Warner and then executed a beautiful two-part celebration.

First, a group of his teammates assembled like bowling pins and Marchman dropped them with a strike, and then he capped that off with a cartwheel. He's pretty nimble for a 287-pound man.

However, it had the expected result: Mercer drew an excessive celebration flag for the display, but I think we can all agree they got their money's worth.
