NCAA 09 Online Dynasty (PS3 SIGNUPS)

My idea of the perfect online dynasty would be to play everyone in the league as often as possible. So I vote for everyone being in the same league and that league having a round robin schedule.

I am curious to see how many people feel this way. While I do want us to play against each other. While it really brings out bragging rights by winning the conference and beating certain players. To play human games 8-9 games a season will really slow down play. Then in Bowl games and Championship games you will be playing the computer. It is a delicate balance really and an overall philosophy question. What is more important head to head play versus playing alot of seasons & human v human bowl games (and possible championship matchups).

If we want BCS conferences then that means the Big East or Pac-10.
If we want smaller conferences then that means the Mountain West, WAC, and Sun Belt.

I prefer to start with smaller conference teams

I like this one

any team under 75 overall rating would be good...........

Any team 89 and under gets my vote

I think this will be our biggest debate. The pool of teams we select. But it really depends on which option we choose as it helps limiting the pool of teams to select. If we go a free for all, I feel 75 might be too low.

But here is the breakdown of teams available.

90+ Teams = 9 Schools
85-89 = 8 Schools
80-84 = 19 Schools
76-79 = 30 Schools
70-75 = 26 Schools (Actually no teams have a score of 75)
0 - 69 = 28 Schools

This might give you an idea of how many schools would be eliminated at each level. So if we go 75 and lower we will have 54 schools to choose from. And if we go 89 and lower we only stop 9 schools from being taken. So there might be a happy medium in there somewhere.

Another interesting note is the Non-BCS Conferences have no team rated higher than 80 (3 teams are at 79).

I've thought about this a little more since making my post. I think I just needed to see it to sort it out. Having eight or nine live games might be alot of fun for me and a bunch of guys that I actually know, but think that you're right...my perfect scenario may not be perfect for this league. The conference championship would ultimately be much more important than any bowl/championship game would be. If we want true bragging rights we can always play a regular online tournament.

If you're ratings count is accurate, and I assume it is, then I'd like to go with the 79 and lower rankings.
79 and lower gives us the following:
- No teams ranked in the top 25 and no freaky talented teams that the developers overrated despite their actual preseason rank(FSU).
- You actually have to work to climb the rankings.
- No one gets destroyed by another human opponent due to massive talent gaps. Especially in bowl games.
- With only 36 teams being rated higher than 79. There are still enough BCS teams to go around and let people go to good bowl games if they happen to miss out on the championship game.
- Team building will be based on being a good coach and recruiter...not on continued dominance.
- Realistically, how many of those over 79 rated teams actually have new coaches?

Never mind any of my ramblings about playing this game on a PS3. I'm likely going to have a change in employer before too long and don't want to buy a whole new system for a single game...especially since I just built a new PC.

Have fun guys.

Don't ban me from BP after I whoop all your candy-asses.

If you can't whoop my candy-ass then you should be banned. As I fully expect to suck

I'm actually fine with whatever you guys come up with. I think it makes sense to not restrict it to one league, so we don't take forever to get through 1 week. Other than that, have at it.

Yeah, seems like the majority is in agreement on not having everyone in the same conference (unless anyone objects). It just seems like it will make the dynasty move faster so we can get to the point that we are playing with 100% of the guys we recruited and butting heads in the national championship game.

That sucks... Hopefully you get a better paying job so you can buy a PS3. But if you change your mind let me know. Plus the cool thing is I can add/drop players in the middle of the Dynasty. So if at some later point in time you do get a PS3 let me know and you will be on the top of the list of replacement players if need be.

I'm cool with under 79 free for all. I agree with what everyone has posted above and can't wait to get this thing started!

Another question will be how are we going to relegate selecting out of conference teams to play? Will these all be people from the league to maximize the number of games against human players in the league, or will it be a free for all-play whoever you want to? This could be troublesome, because an easy way to climb to the top is to schedule all ranked teams in the beginning of each season, but if everyone's cool with that, than so am I.

One more month to go... cannot wait!

It seems like we will be leaning towards a free for all under rating 79 league. I will let that sit for a few more days to see if anyone else chimes in regarding what they prefer.

Now, the custom schedules will be up to me, as the commish has to set them up. It will really depend on the distribution of the teams. But if they are wide-spread (ie no more than 2 in one conference) we will probable go to a required 2 human v human games in non-conference (or more if people want that). I will set up a rotational schedule (home & home series and it will be balanced to where you won't have all your human games away or home)

The non-conference games will be approved by me. So I won't let teams schedule #1 & #2 at the same time to try to boost their strength of schedule. I think I will try to maintain some reality to it. (ie Ohio State is not going to play AT Arkansas State).

We will come up with guidelines as we get into picking teams and such. I can either use the computer default and then the human games will replace your 2nd & 3rd best non-conference games. Or I can let the owners decide on their schedule based on a group guidelines we come up with.

Oh ok that all sounds good, I wasn't sure exactly how these online dynasty's would be run and how much control the commish would have. But, I'm definitely cool with all that you mentioned above.
