3-I think tattoo's are for people unarticulate enough to express themselves verbally-whether they are white, black, or Hispanic. People want to say something, but feel their personalities alone cannot do that. Kind of pathetic, I think, especially when 70% of the tattoo's out there are tribal BS, skulls, dragons, and kid's names-wow, show me some originality at least.....

i have 7 so far and i agree with part of what you said about the tribal tattoos - and i have one of them. I personally am not trying to say something with my tattoos. i like the "pain" of a tattoo, its an addiction/ all of my tattoos - minus the tribal bird - have a very deep meaning to me.

Still waiting for a response...

i didn't see that post

yes for the NBA players (any pro athlete) that came from nothing and is able to make something of himself and be a positive member of community, i'm all for that. what i'm not for is the kid that gets a paycheck then turns to a complete waste - kids that waste the talent that God gave them

Couple of thoughts

1-I don't see the big deal in Thomas' comments-he'd rather have a 3 day weekend than be forced to go to the All Star game and the dunk contest. Does anyone think the Pro Bowl players WANT to play another football game, or the MLB All Stars want to go to the game, instead of 3 days off?

2-The NFL has a lot more criminality among it's players than the NBA,IMO. Just look at the Chargers and the Bengals.

3-I think tattoo's are for people unarticulate enough to express themselves verbally-whether they are white, black, or Hispanic. 4-Due to the influx of foreign players, I would say, in reality, the NBA is a more diverse league than the NFL. The difference is that the NFL plays football the way it should be played, whereas the NBA has 8 guys standing around, and two guys running an ally oop, or a pick n' roll while everyone else standings around watching, yawn city..........

Very good post. My thoughts.

1. Agree totally. In fact, I think I'd feel the same way.

2. Again agree. tempered by the fact that with the NFL the numbers of players is much larger than the NBA.

3. Tattoos are what they are. I don't see the point, but your choice. I wouldn't put a lack of skills aspect to it.

4. The NBA is much more diverse. I agree they don't play the game like it was intended, but for different reasons, :)

So by this you like the NBA, b/c I think there are probably alot more of these types of success in the NBA you don't hear about b/c they don't publicize it like they do the crime and other things...

I don't believe this is accurate. Race was alluded to in posts 24 and 30 of this thread, before tibor posted. And it was lurking within other statements that had been made.

I don't think he deserves any notoriety for touching off the topic in this thread.

Well, I had earlier said that I believed race was a factor. And I still believe that, and I think it's undeniable that it is a factor in why the NBA isn't more popular. But I certainly can't pinpoint how important a factor it is.

Probably the most important, or the most prevalently stated reason for the NBA's lack of popularity, is the style of play - which is, to be fair, a turn off. I don't necessarily believe that it's as much a reflection of laziness or lack of skill as people would have it. Like it or not, these are the best players in the world. And any "lazy", "lack of fundamental" NBA team would mop the floor with the most talented, most disciplined college team. It's a fact. And the style of play is dictated by: 1. Boredom over a long season; 2. The fact that half the league makes the playoffs, lessening the importance of the regular season; and 3. The game wasn't meant to be played by people of this size, speed and athleticism.

Yeah, but up until this year, kids straight out of High School could compete at this "high" level of basketball.
As I think about it, it is the influx of so many HS players that probably ruined the NBA for me. Level of play took a hit, in my mind, anyway.

I suppose - considering that "standard" - I should have a problem with MLB too.

Do you seriously think Lebron would have benefitted from going to college? Or that Shaq would have been less dominant if he hadn't gone to LSU?

But that said, there have been more than a fair share of players that should have gone to college. And it's no coincidence that Kevin Garnett struggled his first year in the NBA, while Lebron excelled.

Well, I guess I'd have to note that LaBron came in to the league well after the overall talent level had gone down (at least to the extent that my belief that HS players in the league dropped the overall level of play).

But, I must admit, I was seriously wrong about LaBron. I was on record as saying there was no way he'd handle a full NBA slate, and he certainly did. And, I also can't get around the fact that some of the leagues most dominant players didn't go to College.... ie Kobe, LeBron, Garnett.

Was just thinking about what may have been the reason why the NBA lost me as a fan.
