Navy 46, Notre Dame 44 (final, 3OT)

Looks like almost all of them are bailing on him. But I bet by next tuesday, it'll be sunshine, lollypops and a NC in '09 ('10 at the latest).

Much earlier than Tuesday.

Personally, I like losing now b/c now we don't have to worry about that monkey on our back going into some possible national title contending seasons in 08 and -09

Actually, I'm sure a lot of them will just find a way to blame Willingham. No matter how bad that class was, I bet it was still rated higher than any of Navy's recent "recruiting classes."

Notre Dame fans are nothing if not delusional. I'd put good money on them talking about how they'll win 8+ games next year, will win their next 4, and/or are still the most relevant program in college football because of their history. I saw a convo recently where ND fans were talking about how USC/ND is the best rivalry in college football -- I mean, there's something in the water around the dome...

That picture of the OT coin toss was priceless, with that 5'6, 160lb Navy player standing next to John Carson. Clearly Ty left the cupboard bare.

I laughed.

This game represents such a huge internal conflict for me though. I mean, I have to appreciate Weis for the decision to NOT kick the game winning field goal at the end of the 4th quarter.

Appreciate Weis though? Damn tough. Damn tough.

:slappy: for the schemes :slappy: for the offensive genius :slappy: for the arrogant fans :slappy: just because I think it's funny that they are paying 35m for a guy who's so arrogant he won't just kick a field goal in regulation and win but wants to try and make the victory look like more than it was :slappy: and the last one is for UCLA, how much does it have to suck to be the ONLY team that NoD beat?

He also went for it on 4th and 13 or 14 with a little over 6 minutes left, from inside his own 40, down by 7. They got it when a Navy guy missed the sack, and tied the game later on that drive, but if they didn't get that, and Navy would have gotten a FG afterwards, he would have been asked about that decision forever.

Absolutely. To be honest, I thought ND's coaching staff displayed stunning ineptitude (we could call it (over)confidence, except they lost, so the value changes) throughout most of the game. Even this year, Notre Dame has no business losing to Navy.

ND fans should take Weis to task, I just don't think they really will. Instead, most of the talk will be about who the "real" fans are, and how they're (once again) only a year away.
