Game Thread Navy 27, at tOSU 31 (Sep 5th, ESPN)

So I've never used this site much at all, but I felt inclined to tell you all what an AWESOME time I had at the game today.

I go to one game a year and its usually a blowout against a MAC school, so it was a great experience to go to a game that was a contest late into the 4th quarter. I love Rolle's return, but secretly I wouldn't have minded if Navy had made the conversion...there'd have been no way TP wouldn't have led the Buckeyes down the field for a game-winning field goal try. Would have loved to have seen it!

Anyway, just felt like sharing my experience with everyone...happy Labor Day!

My thing is this: If you want to show Navy repsect next time, treat them like a real opponent next time. I'll probably get drilled for this by somebody... I appreciate the service those guys give to our country, but on this particular Saturday the weren't defending our country, they were a bunch of guy lining up and trying to beat my Buckeyes. I'd prefer instead of rolling out the red carpet next time that they not leave points on the field, put the game away when you have the ball, not put in the backup QB with the game still in question, and use a little more of the playbook.

I understand the point about not wanting to put stuff on film for USC next week, but are a few more screen passes to negate the blitz too much to ask for? It's not as if Pete Carroll has never seen a screen before.

As they showed, Navy is a team fully capable of beating the Buckeyes. Treat them like it next time.

Best post of the thread.

After watching the game, I'm left thinking that was one of the weirdest games I have ever seen. Flat out. We looked good on offense passing the ball in my opinion. The roll outs were so money. Running game was decent but I think we will be okay there. Wasn't impressed with the defense but then again we're playing Navy which is a hard frame of reference. I was very frustrated with Anderson Russel's pass coverage but maybe I'm just suffering from 'average-fan-syndrome'. Anybody else notice it?
I really expect the pony/pistol to be one of our main sets. I didn't see any of it today. Saw hardly any option until the second half. Swing passes were money to both Saine and Pryor. Bummed that we put Joe Baseball in so early instead of putting the game away and getting some young guys in there. Mind Boggling to me.

I don't care if we drop in the rankings. I feel way better about winning a close one against Navy than I did about winning against Ohio last year. If we beat USC, we will be in the thick of things. Lets get it done.

Did Simon & Fragel actually get time today? Saw them on the participation report. Maybe they were on the protection units.
Klein too, though I'm betting he was coverage.

Barnett, Homan, Boren and Carter were obviously the other frosh.

Whew! That was a close one.

This team is going to be (mostly) fun to watch this year, and sometimes painful to watch. Lots of youth, but they'll put it together. I love our TEs, and Carter is going to be another great Buckeye WR.

I loved how the teams ran onto the field together. Very cool!

Anyone know why Pryor had Vick on his face? That was a bit surprising.

Also, Stefanie Spielman didn't look that good. Is her cancer back?

Thanks for posting this.

The singing of the Alma Maters is a very big part of the Army-Navy game. It's great that they extend the courtesy to other opponents who also sing their Alma Mater after games.

To those in attendance: Did the Buckeyes similarly respect the singing of "Navy Blue & Gold"?

They did. They were at the center of the field praying while Navy sang their alma mater.

Cool, maybe? But I didn't care for it. The whole thing leading up to the game was to cheer for Navy when they came onto the field. Well, no crap they're going to get cheered when they run out with the home team. Were they afraid the crowd would not react the way they had hoped? I think it would've been much cooler for Navy to receive their own standing ovation. On Mrs. Spielman, I agree, she didn't look well and Chris mentioned that one of the first things he thought of was that he hoped his family would be able to be there. I really hope she is able to recover.

The first fumble was not an option drop. It was caused by Thad Gibson wrapping up the QB from behind. It was clearly a forced fumble.

I dispute, that fumble should be to Rolle's credit. Sure, Gibson had him wrapped up, but his arms never moved, and the ball didn't come loose until Rolle lowered his helmet into the ball. You even hear a "pop" as Rolle hits him and the ball comes out.

Anyways, Rolle had a fantastic game and first career start. He was all over the field, credited with 9 tackles, a key INT, and a Def TD.

I think I feel the opposite of most in the country. I actually came away more confident this season then I have been since 2006. I think Pryor looks super efficent, and is someone we know who can always keep us in the game. His passing has improved ALOT, he looks like a natural leader, and reminds me a lot of Vince Young. I never thought I'd say that about someone who could have potential to match VY both physically and mentally as a winner/leader but TP has it.

I think Saine looked GREAT. Really surprised me how well he ran the ball today. Boom looked good as well, but the oline does need to iimprove pushing the line. The WR's/TE's have a lot of great potential, but looked rusty and novice. They need to keep their hands on the ball and go all out.

The defense needs to be more aggressive

I dont know why, but I feel next week that we will play a great game vs USC. I think Pryor will keep us in it, and I think we will have balance running the ball. Hopefully the defense steps it up.

If USC beats us next week it's not because we suck, but because I think USC is a VERY VERY talented team. I just feel very confident with Pryor at QB running a none conservative offense.

I dont think we will win the title this year, but I love the potential next year. This year I'd love to beat SC, win a BCS bowl, and go into next season with a lot of confidence and returning leadership
