NASCAR (Official Thread)

Huge day for race fans. F1 had the Grand Prix of Monaco this morning, the Indy 500 just wrapped up a little bit ago, and NASCAR has the 600 miles at Charlotte tonight. Not to get overshadowed, the green flag is about to drop at the Walmart 450!

Amazing news he may survive this. Serious but non-life threatening.

Yeah, the hit on the driver's side he took in the air looked bad, and obviously the outer frame failed, and you just don't know how the cage is holding up. Good part was he was moving down the track the whole time with no real sudden stops... But a heck of a ride and hopefully he recovers fully. (Also I think it was lajoie that hit him in the air so much for his face on the hood)

As NASCAR returns to the race track for the first time in more than two months, the sport will honor frontline healthcare workers in The Real Heroes 400 at Darlington Raceway on Sunday, May 17, at 3:30 p.m. ET on FOX.

The special NASCAR Cup Series race entitlement at Darlington Raceway follows the launch of The Real Heroes Project, a collaborative initiative by 14 sports leagues including NASCAR to recognize and pay tribute to medical professionals serving on the front lines in the fight against COVID-19.

“As the coronavirus challenges our country in unprecedented ways, the frontline healthcare workers – the nurses, paramedics, emergency physicians and many others – continue to inspire us with their strength and bravery in caring for their fellow Americans,” said Jill Gregory, NASCAR executive vice president and chief marketing and content officer. “These men and women are the real heroes and the NASCAR industry is incredibly proud to honor their selflessness and service as we return to racing on Sunday.”

Michael Jordan's race team unveils Bubba Wallace's new ride

On Friday morning, the 23XI Racing team unveiled the long-anticipated news of its manufacturer and technical partner, Toyota and Joe Gibbs Racing.

But what stole the show was when driver Bubba Wallace and team co-owner Denny Hamlin unveiled their race car, bearing the number and colors made famous by Hamlin's ownership partner, Michael Jordan.

The Chicago Bulls-esque red, white and black Toyota Camry featured Jordan's No. 23 on the doors and the 23XI Racing team logo on the hood and quarter panels, hopefully to be replaced by sponsorship before the team makes its NASCAR Cup Series debut in less than four months at 2021 Daytona Speedweeks.

Lost in the excitement of seeing Michael Jordan's car with Michael Jordan's number was the real story, a technical alliance that gives MJ's team -- and its driver -- a chance to compete.

Joe Gibbs Racing is the flagship organization of Toyota Racing Development and the team Hamlin has driven throughout his 16-plus-year Cup Series career. The TRD relationship includes an agreement with JGR that allows 23XI Racing to purchase equipment and share technical information.

"My main goal for 23XI Racing is to be competitive for a championship as soon as possible," Jordan said in a statement. "Our partnership with Toyota and Joe Gibbs Racing gives us the equipment, resources and expertise to do it."
