5010 songs - that total has been pared way down. I removed about 2000 songs from my iTunes Library in the past couple weeks for the sake of getting things cleaner and more organized.

Can the Ipod only be filled with songs from I-tunes or your own CD ? I was thinking of getting one but .99 seems a bit high if I'm going to load it with 500 songs. Thanks
no. there are alternate routes to putting songs into an ipod. of course, these methods aren't always legal. if you're an outlaw, you can try limewire and other similar p2p networks. just get the song as a file that itunes software can use, and you're golden.

there is an "or" in there, but i'm pretty sure that brutus1 knows that songs from cds can be put on an ipod. i think that he was asking about (free) alternatives to itunes and cds.

got it... one of these days I'll learn to read... hopefully soon.

Action: I have recently opened an account with iTunes. I downloaded quite a few songs, synced them to my SD card for my Palm Pilot.

Problem: Files Downloaded from iTunes are in m4p format, not mp3. Real player doesn't even see them, much less play them.

WTF good is iTunes?

Ares or Limewire work just fine.... Not that I have it or anything!!! :wink2: Some files on those programs aren't the right format though.... IS what I'm hearing of course!

Yeah, if you don't have an iPod, then iTunes isn't the way to go. It's not impossible though. Like they said there are converters out there. You can also convert without any extra software. Just put the purchased songs into a playlist, and burn them to an Audio CD on a CD-RW. Make sure in your iTunes preferences you have it set to export (rip) CDs in mp3 format. Then rip the CD you just burned. Erase. Repeat.

That's what I do. I have an iPod, so technically I don't need the workaround. However, I prefer to keep all of my files in one place, in one format, and preferably DRM-free.

Oh, if you don't mind getting your legal mp3s from Russia, you can go here:

Allofmp3

Songs are about 10-20 cents apiece, and full albums are usually about $2. I get most everything from there, and only use iTunes for exclusives and stuff I can't find.

It's kind of funny/ironic that you used the search engine to find an old thread that was created by...
