MP3 player recommendations

Don't geta Nano! They are $100 throw aways.
(CNN) -- Apple has admitted there are problems with its new iPod Nano portable music player, but the technology giant insists the number of units affected by the flaws are minimal.
Problems with the smaller version of the iPod, unveiled earlier this month, include cracked screens and easily-scratched surfaces.
Complaints about the product have led one disgruntled owner to set up a Web site (flawedmusicplayer.com) for others to air their views and post pictures of cracked screens online.

I just bought an 8gb Nano in a nice Ohio State scarlet color, and I love it so far--no problems, incredibly light, great screen and controls and tons of dedicated accessories (bought a jbl radial player for the kitchen). Before this, I had a 20gb dell mp3 player that is no longer compatible with media player, so I can't sync it. It plays well, and I still have it connected to my home theatre, but it's too heavy and bulky for the gym or dog walks or anything else really.

As far as the songs that I bought from Musicmatch, I had to first burn them onto an audio cd, then rip those cds back into itunes, which was time consuming but didn't seem to denigrate the sound quality.

i am thinking about buying a silver ipod shuffle today at target for 80 bucks. its only 1GB, but hell one gig of songs can last me over a week and if i want different ones i can just take some out and put some new ones in. i like it because it is tiny and it has a clip so you can clip it to a shirt or whatnot. seems like it would be good for running. however, there is no screen, it just shuffles but with a decent playlist in there its not a big deal to me. the old minis are the exact thing just with a screen and touch longer.
i have a question though. i primarily use limewire and play the files through windows media player. do mp3 files work on ipod or do they have to be mp4? can i put songs on the ipod off of my shared folder from limewire?....if not can i just take the songs out of my shared folder on limewire and move them to an iTunes folder and then put them in?

You can use regular mp3 files on your iPod. You should also be able to keep the files in their current folder and access them through iTunes.

yea i found out today after i bought the shuffle. i had probs at first with the USB port recognizing the shuffle but it finally did so thats no problem. well besides the earbuds. one of the guys i live with has the apple earbuds and has no problem with them but they are not even remotely close to fitting my ears at all. i can't even stand straight up without them falling out. anybody have any suggestions from experience on what would be a better alternative for ear pieces?

Perhaps something like this dude is wearing. He's being all kinds of active and they don't seem to be falling out.

Try something like these. Aslo, if you have an Apple Store in your city, they'll take earbud returns within 30 days even if you've worn them.

The sonys are about $40. If you want to spend the money Bose and Schur make similar but cost $100 and over--I've never tried them so I don't know if they're worth the extra money. I also have a pair that I picked up at an airport from a company called KOSS for $20. They have squishy black foam pads that you squeeze first, then put in your ear. The foam expands to fit your ear. Also, while not being noise canceling, the design does still block out a great deal of external noise. Sound quality is pretty good for the money.

I just bought a 30GB iPod, my first. About 95% of my music was WMA the rest MP3. It took about 2 hours to get everything into iTunes after that I pretty much just plugged it into the computer and it did the rest. So far I love it, I have about 650 songs on it with room for about 6800 more. The controls were very easy to learn. You can make and save playlists right on the iPod. Also I bought the attachment so that I can play it over the radio, very cool. Should make long drives a lot nicer.

I can't really speak for some of the other major brands, but I know you can do this with iPods. It's not a function inherent to iPods, but a few third party applications have cropped up that allow you to transfer from player to computer. There may be some freeware out there that does it actually, but if not, I know I've seen some software for sale at Wal-Mart and Target that'll allow you to do it with an iPod.
