Eh, already out, almost out... whatever...

Firefox 2 has not yet been officially released. Please be patient. We still plan on launching Tuesday, October 24th in the afternoon pacific time. Linking to anything other than getfirefox.com [getfirefox.com] or mozilla.com [mozilla.com] hurts us, our volunteer mirror network, and our ability to effectively serve up and guarantee availability of Firefox. I read his blog last night. He says everything EXCEPT that this was not the real thing. He gives tons of reasons why people shouldn't have dowloaded this file, but none of them say that it is not Firefox 2.0. I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure that this was/is the real thing.

the last time i downloaded an update i lost a bunch of extensions and crap. why should i download this one?

Most of the extensions are still supported (I know, there are some really nice ones that just stopped being updated). Their developers will release an update to make them compatible. If not, then there is still hope. There is an extension that forces extensions to work with the new version. It probably doesn't have a 100% conversion success rate, but it has worked for what I've used it for. It's called "Nightly Tester Tools." I don't have stats for sure, but I'd be willing to bet that Firefox 2.0 uses far less system resources than IE7. Plus you just can't beat the extensions. You can't customize IE7 like you can Firefox.

FWIW you can also get Firefox 2.0 from this link http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/products/download.html?product=firefox-2.0&os=win&lang=en-US
All you have to do is change the version number from 1.5.07 to 2.0 and it points you to the right file. Doesn't matter much since it's supposed to be available for real within a few hours.

I installed 2.0, and everything is working fine for the most part. I have installed Nightly Tester Tools, and all of my extensions are working except Tab Mix. I had to disable it, because it was messing up my tabs.

Negatory, tiger. Colorful tabs still work, but not Tab Mix.


Does anyone's screen look odd (in 2.0) when you do a Google Image search and then click on an image?

Here's an update for Tab Mix plus that works with version 2.0

Just right click and save the .xpi file and then open it with firefox.

Just clicking on it may work also but i had to take the above steps.

I just installed 2.0 at work this morning... looks great! I like the spellcheck feature... unfortunately it doesn't seem to work on this message board.

All my extensions work except two, one of which I uninstalled because it is no longer needed with the 2.0 enhancements. The theme I had installed hasn't been updated yet either. I'll have to try the Nightly Tester Tools extension.

I like the spell check feature... unfortunately it doesn't seem to work on this message board.

It works if you are in the advanced mode. If you want it to work in the quick reply field you have to right click and select 'Spell check this field.'

I'm seeing two images, one of which appears in the tab (but it's a large image, so it stretches out the tab to match its size). Very bizarre.
