Mozilla Firefox (official thread)

FYI

My Firefox stopped working this morning so I went out to their site to reinstall. They have a new beta out and damn it works well. It seems to load a lot faster than the version that I had.

I've been running 1.5 Beta 2 for a few weeks now and it is great... probably the most stable version they have released yet. I believe the consumer version (the one they will advertise) of 1.5 will be released in mid-November. I love the ability to rearrange tabs how you see fit... very handy when browsing multiple websites at once.

Funny man! At least it didn't take me months to upgrade to the newer version.

BTW, Mozilla did a controlled rollout of their older FireFox updates so their servers wouldn't be swamped with thousands upon thousands of hits at once as those older updates were at least 5MB in size. Once they rollout FireFox 1.5 only the files that need changed will be downloaded and thus a significantly smaller and quicker update time.

To the person who left me this message in the rep they left me (you didn't leave your name):

I was running the beta for awhile, but the version I was using (I think it was beta 1) didn't support all of the various plugins, and it got too annoying--other than that it was real nice.
I had the same issues with Beta 1 but haven't had as many with Beta 2. Once I installed Beta 2 it updated almost all of the extensions that didn't work in Beta 1. Also remember that it is up to the individual extension authors/creators to update their extensions to be compatible with the new releases as they come out... some authors are really good at keeping their extensions upgraded, others not so much.

Also, for all you interested in the progression of FireFox, the 1.5 Release Candidate 1 is scheduled for release on October 28. For those that don't know, the Release Candidate is the version right before the public release that testers/power users test out to make sure there aren't any major bugs or hinderances in the application.

Yeah, that was me....I forgot to sign it. Sometimes I forget that rep is the only thing on this site that your name isn't auto-attached to. I'll have to go back and get beta2. I really liked all the features, but the limited plug-in support was too annoying.
