Most overused cliche in football?

One that bothers me is "they came to play."

I would certainly hope so.

That and "You can see these kids really want this one" and "These kids know this [game, series of downs, down, half, insert here] may determine how this season is remembered." The former usually said just before a shot of the sidelines where the guys are talking crap to each other. The latter said invariably just before Voyd chokes again.

Another cliche thing I hate about football is "FOOTBALL IS A WAR. THIS IS NOT A GAME, IT'S GOING TO BE A WAR!". Ok, seriously. Get a grip on reality.

This is such a true statement.

It drives me crazy when they refer to each other as "warriors", "soldiers" or "he's a real warrior". None of these fuckers with the exception of Pat Tillman have a clue as to what a war really is. Football or any sport for that matter is NOT a war. It's a game and nothing more.

Most overused words/phrases in CFB

After watching a lot of college games this season, I've started to get sick of hearing the same phrases over and over. These ones immediately come to mind:

"Showed a lot of poise"
"Facing adversity"
"Pin their ears back"

I'll post more as I remember them. Just wondering what phrases annoy everyone else.

Here's another phrase that unfortunately needs to be used on BP:

"Search function"

Looks like the n00b is "facing adversity", but I thought Mili "showed a lot of poise" in taking it easy on him, rather than "pinning his ears back" and having at him.

Unfortunately, if he "responds" and makes a "huge play" this could "turn into a real barnburner" that becomes a "battle for field position".
