More proof that "American Idol" fans are losers...

There are a lot of losers and stupid people around. Look at best seller lists for books. How many are crappy romance or mystery novels? How many self help books from obese morons who can't even take care of themselves?

I'm not surprised American Idol is popular any more than I was surprised Survivor was. Stupid people are in abundance.

And for every one of these "stupid people," there's a Tibor pointing him out.

Spoken like a true dumbass with no sense of culture or taste.

Let me guess you also consider McDonalds high quality food, too? :roll1:
I've experienced more culture than you have, I assure you. But you continue to prove my point. Your only stance and argument is to belittle those you watch the show. That people who watch the show are stupid and lack culture or taste. You can't look at yourself as the issue. Its the arrogant Dr.B in you, I guess.

McDonalds is garbage. But its affordable, thus popular.

If all foods cost the same, "The Refectory" or "Hyde Park" would have the "60 billion served" sign.

With 300 channels of tv, all of it costing the same as the others, no show is chosen more frequently than AI. And oddly, it isn't just the trailerparks with Neilsen boxes.

The average American can at least spell "karaoke".
First of all, the average American can't spell "their", "your", or "would've" so I suspect getting "karaoke" correct is, on average, out of the question.

As for "American Idol", I don't watch it myself, but I see nothing particularly insipid or stupid about people enjoying what is essentially nothing more or less than an ongoing musical talent show in which contestants are judged, however questionably in some cases, on their merits, however questionable in some cases. While it's hardly high culture, it does honor the beneficial human (and traditionally American) traditions of competition, the pursuit of success through one's own efforts, willingness to risk failure and humiliation in pursuit of one's dreams, and democracy/populism. Besides, given the often random nature of success in the music business, I'm not sure the AI process for selecting "talent" is any worse than the general process, and it might be better.

I do think that folks who get wrapped up in the personalities and lives of AI contestants are lame, but I feel that way about the culture of celebrity-worship generally and am unconvinced that idolizing Kelly Clarkson is any lamer than idolizing Kobe Bryant or George Clooney.

The average American can at least spell "karaoke".

What's the phrase? 10 billion Chinamen can't be wrong..

And when you're the odd man out because you just "don't get it", you have to find a way to belittle the show and its viewers to make yourself feel better. It can't be you. It has to be the 50 million other people who watch the show that are stupid and brainwashed. That must be it. You're way too cool and intelligent to watch that trash.

That superior intellect and coolness also prevents you from reading Harry Potter or watching Survivor, or enjoying the Star Wars movies too, I'll bet.

Eh, I've never done "karaoke" nor had an interest in it. Then again, that's a lame excuse, so I'll take my bashing.

I don't bash certain shows b/c I'm the alleged odd man out. There are some popular shows that I watch which are absolutely horrible ("Deal or no Deal" and the occasional Jerry Springer debacle spring to mind), but I'm at least honest enough to admit they're freakin' horrible and I should be doing something else besides watching them. The notion that ratings or popularity somehow equates to quality is insane especially for entertainment. Americans have always supported terrible shows, movies, music, books, etc. This is just another time when a stupid show caught on.

On a positive note, at least no one has said they've actually voted for a performer on American Idol. That would be about as pathetic as one can get...

Hey. I admit. I have arrogance about me. It comes from my life experiences.

As for culture, has anyone watched Japanese tv? Or Korean? You'd realize just how good we have it with American Idol.
When I was in Italy two years ago they were showing dubbed "Hunter" reruns. Also, does Spanish language television offer anything that isn't an Springer-like talk show, soccer, or a soap opera? The one comfort is that American stupidity is easily matched by everyone else.
